About The Position:
The Manager, Radiation Protection reports to the Senior Director, Nuclear Operations and is responsible for following and analyzing trends in radiological work performance of station personnel, contamination and exposure control, job exposures and taking necessary actions to correct adverse situations and trend at the Callaway Energy Center.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage programs and personnel to assure the radiological health and safety of plant staff and the public.
  • Provide radiation protection overview of plant operations including radioactive waste processing and control to maintain station collective radiation dose ALARA.
  • Follow and analyze trends in radiological work performance of station personnel, contamination and exposure control, job exposures and take the necessary actions to correct adverse situations and trends.
  • Approve all reports developed to ensure compliance with current federal regulatory requirements, technical specifications and state legislation.
  • Owner of the Radiation Protection Accredited Training programs. Works with the Training Director and staff to develop, coordinate, and implement the RP Department training.
  • Manage the Radiation Protection department in accordance with the guidelines set forth in Callaway Plant Policy POL0052, Callaway Governance, Oversight, Support and Perform (GOSP) Model and Attachment 1 to the Policy, Areas of Responsibility Callaway Energy Center Directors and Managers.
  • Ensure administrative and departmental procedures are developed, approved and implemented for Radiation Protection activities such that personnel perform their duties in a safe, legal, and efficient manner.
  • Participate as a member on the Plant ALARA Review Committee (PARC), Maintain external interfaces with outside agencies reviewing plant operations, such as, USNRC, INPO, and ANI for audit and inspection activities.
  • Responsible for assuming ERO duties in accordance with Callaway Plant Radiological Emergency Response Plan (RERP) including responding to the plant, Emergency Operations Facility, or Joint Public Information Center within the required RERP response time.

Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Physics, Health Physics, or Engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university is required.

Equivalent is defined as:

  • Four years of formal schooling in science or engineering.
  • Four years of applied radiation protection experience at a nuclear facility.
  • Four years of operation or technical experience / training in nuclear power.
  • Any combination of the above totaling four years. It should be noted that the above requirement is in addition to the requirement for five years of professional experience in applied radiation protection as specified in RG 1.8.

Experience: The following experience requirements are in addition to the above listed educational requirements as specified in RG 1.8, Revision 1 as clarified by USNRC HPPOS 020.

  • Five year's professional applied Radiation Protection experience, including three years' experience in applied Radiation Protection work in a nuclear facility required. Seven years relevant experience preferred
  • Two or more year's supervisory or high-level team/project leadership required.

Advanced degrees may be considered in lieu of experience as follows:

  • A Master's degree may be considered equivalent to one year of professional experience
  • where course work related to radiation protection is involved.
  • A Doctorate degree may be considered equivalent to two years of professional experience where course work related to radiation protection is involved.

Certification/License, etc. - SRO license or SRO certification is desirable but not required.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Successful leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to interface and build relationships with station leaders.
  • Good conflict management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, condition reporting, and trending.

Working Conditions
The Radiation Protection Manager works a standard day shift or an alternate approved schedule in a Nuclear Plant environment. Callouts and working rotating or Outage schedules may be required to support plant operations.

Compensation Range:

$131,900.00 - $204,400.00

At Ameren, base salary is one component of a competitive compensation package for employees. Our pay ranges are broad to allow for movement within our organization and to accommodate different skill sets and levels of expertise. We take into consideration a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity when determining the base salary offered. Roles are eligible for additional rewards including annual incentive payments based on individual and company performance.
