Overview

Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies. We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems. Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

This position will be located at NASA's White Sands Test Facility in the Technical Services Department.

Responsibilities

The position involves the direct supervision and direction of an organization of 10-15 metrology professionals. The Branch Manager is responsible for acquiring and assigning qualified personnel in his/her organization, conducting performance evaluations, planning salary actions, and making recommendations for hiring and promotions. He/she will be required to interpret and apply organizational policies; provide leadership toward resolving employee problems; and champion, coach, and motivate teams and/or team members. He/she will provide direction to staff and assist with the development of department and company initiatives. This is a working engineering and management position.

    Lead and manage a team of metrology technicians, ensuring efficient use of time and resources while maintaining compliance with all industry and agency standards.
  • Ensure that all measurement instruments are calibrated to appropriate standards, as dictated by the National Measurement Institutes (NMIs).
  • Develop and implement metrology procedures to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Analyze measurement data and troubleshoot equipment issues to support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing quality and efficiency.
  • Lead the metrology team during audits to demonstrate compliance with established standards and practices.
  • Collect and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to metrology operations.
  • A solid understanding of ANSI Z540.1, ANSI Z540.3, ISO 9001 and ISO 17025.
  • A solid understanding of measurement uncertainties, Test Uncertainty ratios (TURS) and measurement conversion math.
  • Familiarization with modern Calibration Management Systems (CMS).
  • Acquiring and assigning qualified personnel to the MSCL as necessary to cover workload.
  • Performing and developing personnel evaluations.
  • Making recommendations for hiring and promoting personnel.
  • Interpret and apply organizational policies.
  • Resolve employee concerns.
  • Champion, coach, and motivate team members.
  • Provide direction and assistance in development of department and company initiatives.
  • Provide interpretation and apply rules from Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and have familiarity with working with Union personnel.
  • Serve as an interface with our NASA customer.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Work well under pressure to meet deadline requirements.


Qualifications

Requires a BS degree in Engineering or related field and five (5) years of related experience. In lieu of degree, ten (10) years of related experience is required. Leadership skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. Previous supervisor experience and/or Project Management experience is preferred.

Certifications: Relevant certifications in quality management or metrology (e.g., CCT, CQE, CMQ/OE) are preferred.
