Ames Construction Southwest is seeking an experienced Civil Superintendent with over 10 years of heavy civil and mining construction experience, including 5+ years in supervisory roles leading large-scale earthwork, mass excavation, haul road development, structural concrete, and related civil operations on complex, schedule-driven projects.

The ideal candidate has a strong commitment to safety, quality, and workforce development, and has a proven ability to lead and mentor field teams of 20+ personnel in demanding environments. This role requires deep knowledge of heavy civil and mining construction practices, cost control, planning, scheduling, and execution of detailed work plans. The candidate must be skilled in coordinating with engineers, safety professionals, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to maintain project progress and ensure compliance with specifications and contractual obligations. Strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to proactively resolve field challenges are essential.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Instill Safety as the highest priority across all field activities.

  • Hire, train, develop, and mentor craft personnel, ensuring strong crew performance.

  • Maintain open and effective communication with crews, Project Engineers, Safety Managers, clients, and subcontractors.

  • Monitor project schedules and coordinate work sequencing, contractor activities, and supplier deliveries to maintain production goals.

  • Ensure all construction work meets drawings, specifications, mining standards, and contractual requirements.

  • Assist in developing and executing work plans, manpower projections, material and equipment needs, and daily/weekly scheduling.

  • Maintain and track project costs, ensuring budget adherence and implementing corrective measures when needed.

  • Identify potential problems, interferences, or schedule delays and collaborate with project management to develop solutions.

  • Lead a disciplined team, delegate responsibilities effectively, and set clear goals to achieve high-quality performance aligned with company expectations and client requirements.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in heavy civil and/or mining construction.

  • Five or more years in a supervisory role (Superintendent, General Foreman, Foreman).

  • Strong knowledge of mass earthwork, mine infrastructure construction, heavy equipment operations, and civil construction methods.

  • Experience leading and managing crews of 20 or more employees.

  • Understanding of cost management, production tracking, planning, and scheduling.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify and correct discrepancies.

  • Positive attitude with strong leadership and motivational skills.

  • Effective time management, multitasking, and prioritization abilities.

  • Valid Driver's License required.

Working Conditions
  • Travel: Required-primary assignments within Arizona; subsequent projects may be located nationally.

  • Schedule: Weekdays from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with occasional overtime as needed.

  • Construction / Mining Site Environment: Requires the ability to stand, walk, crawl, bend, climb, and lift or carry materials. Exposure to high noise levels, dust, vibration, and outdoor elements should be expected.
