What we are looking for

SCS Engineers is seeking motivated undergraduate or graduate students passionate about sustainability, climate action, and the circular economy for our summer 2026 intern program in our Mobile, AL office. This opportunity offers valuable hands-on experience in both technical engineering and business operations through a diverse range of client projects while giving you the chance to explore the beginnings of your own career path.

As an intern, you'll work alongside experienced professionals in our national Sustainability + Climate Change practice on client-facing projects across solid waste, industrial, commercial, and municipal sectors. You will typically work 40 hours per week.

From landfill gas-to-energy projects and carbon sequestration to sustainability reporting and zero-waste strategies, we deliver practical, innovative solutions that make a real environmental impact.



How you can make an impact

    GHG) inventories, carbon footprint calculations, and Scope 1, 2, and 3 reporting using the GHG Protocol
  • Support life-cycle assessments (LCA), circular economy studies, and zero-waste/master planning initiatives
  • Contribute to ESG/sustainability reporting, Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) alignment, and CDP/Climate Disclosure Project responses
  • Help develop climate action plans, decarbonization roadmaps, and renewable natural gas (RNG)/carbon capture feasibility studies
  • Conduct research on emerging regulations (e.g., SEC climate disclosure rules, California SB 253/261, EPA methane rules) and industry best practices
  • Perform data analysis and visualization (Excel, Power BI, or similar) for landfill gas, biogas, and waste-diversion projects
  • Prepare technical memos, presentations, and sections of client deliverables
  • Participate in client meetings, site visits (when possible), and internal sustainability training sessions
  • Collaborate on marketing/proposal efforts and conference submissions (e.g., WasteExpo, SWANA, Air & Waste Management Association)
  • Complete a capstone presentation to SCS leadership on a sustainability topic or project of your choice


Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in environmental, biosystems, or chemical engineering, environmental science, sustainability studies, data science, business sustainability, or related fields and graduating by June 2028 required. Candidates going into senior year are preferred.
  • Must be willing to live in the Mobile area for Summer 2026 (housing allowance will not be provided).
  • Strong interest in corporate sustainability, climate change mitigation, waste management, or renewable energy.
  • Previous leadership experience required.
  • Solid computer skills and a willingness to learn new tools and develop technical skills through hands-on project experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Great attention to detail and solid judgment.
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Valid driver's license with a driving record in good standing required
  • Ability to travel overnight for work outside of an office setting may be required.


Pay Range

USD $20.00 - USD $24.00 /Hr.
