Loyola University Chicago's (
LUC) School of Environmental Sustainability (
SES) invites applications for a full-time teaching faculty position in Geographic Information System. The successful candidate will start at the rank of Lecturer beginning in August of 2026. We are seeking candidates who can teach four courses at both the upper-division undergraduate and graduate level: 1) Introduction to
GIS; 2) Advanced
GIS; 3) Remote Sensing; and 4) Python Programming for
GIS. Depending on the needs of
SES and the candidate's areas of interest and/or expertise, other courses may be developed. The successful candidate will also work with LUC's Information & Technology Services department to manage
GIS software and hardware. Preferred applicants will be motivated to advance the
SES Mission.
Loyola University Chicago is committed to environmental sustainability, having transformed its campuses to meet energy, water, and waste efficiencies that have consistently ranked the University in the top 5% of green campuses nationally. The three
LUC campuses within the Chicago Metropolitan Area attained carbon neutrality in 2025. The
SES serves approximately 300 undergraduate and 90 graduate and graduate-certificate students. It offers
undergraduate degrees ranging from a B.S. in Environmental Science with options for specialized concentrations to a B.A. in Environmental Studies, Environmental Economics & Sustainability, or Environmental Policy. We also offer an
MS degree in Environmental Science & Sustainability with four concentrations in addition to three graduate-certificate programs. The
SES is housed within a state-of-the-art geo-thermally heated/cooled building complex containing a 3,100 sq ft greenhouse, aquaponics facilities, a biodiesel production facility, teaching & research labs, an environmental analytical lab, and a 'green' residence hall. The campus prioritizes sustainability with energy-efficient
LEED-certified buildings, permeable pavement, green roof installations, and student-run urban gardens supplying local farmers' markets. The
Loyola University Retreat & Ecology Campus (
LUREC) has ongoing wetland and oak-hickory woodland restoration projects, 3-week summer field courses, and is a venue for faculty and student research in sustainable agriculture, ecology, and wetland restoration. For more information about

This is a full-time, non-tenure-track position with the title of Lecturer within the Loyola University Chicago School of Environmental Sustainability. It has a 4-course per semester teaching assignment with a standard workload of 80% teaching and 20% service.
The candidate will be expected to teach
GIS courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels while contributing service to the school, university, academic discipline, and/or community. |

This salary range is for a nine-month academic appointment. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on a range of factors including, but not limited to, the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree; training; field or discipline; budget availability; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs. |
