Position Summary

Manage and administer all phases of the men's soccer program, within the guidelines, rules and regulation of the University, OVC, and the NCAA

Duties/Responsibilities



  • Schedule and conduct regular practice sessions in and out of season, as allowed.

  • Coach team during scheduled events.

  • Determine and implement the strategies necessary to motivate the players to maximum levels of individual and team performance.

  • Conduct coaches' preparatory meetings and teaching procedures for the assistant coaching staff.

  • Develop comprehensive and functional knowledge of the sport, and actively seek development of new performance methods and strategies.

  • Responsible for the search, selection, and training of qualified assistant coaches with the approval of the Director of Athletics and Assistant Director of Athletics and in accordance with all University personnel and affirmative action programs and procedures.

  • Direct and manage assistant coaches. Delegate and prioritize administrative responsibilities.

  • Maintain continual and thorough familiarity with all applicable NCAA, OVC, and departmental rules and regulations.

  • Cooperate with Director of Athletics Compliance in seeking that all staff members are familiar with and in compliance with all rules and regulations governing conduct.

  • Responsible for overseeing and administration of the sports' budget.

  • Arrange for all the team's travel needs for practice and competition in conjunction with Senior Administrative Assistant.

  • Scout and recruit quality student-athletes and coordinate recruiting activities by working with faculty and University staff to assist in the recruiting process.

  • Demonstrate an active interest in the academic progress of student-athletes.

  • Work closely with Director of Compliance, Faculty Athletic Representative, and the Academic Advising staff to prevent academic eligibility problems.

  • Work closely with the athletic training staff and team physician to provide for the safety and health of student-athletes.

  • Provide individual mentoring to student-athletes, and when necessary, direct the student-athlete to seek professional guidance.

  • Establish and ensure communication and enforcement of rules and regulations regarding student conduct, appearance, and behavior.

  • Assist in requirements for class attendance and make-up coursework.

  • Demonstrate a cooperative attitude toward all sports sponsored by the intercollegiate athletics program.

  • Implement fundraising programs to assist growth of team's budget.

  • Participate in the University's public relations activities, including print, television and radio interviews, and news conferences.

  • Participate in annual continuing education as required by the NCAA, Conference and/or Institution is required.

  • Adhering to all NCAA, Conference, and Institutional rules and regulations is required at all times. All violations must be reported to the Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Director of Compliance or their designee immediately.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Knowledge and Skills



  • Bachelor's degree in related area.

  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational, management and administrative skills.

  • Familiarity with OVC and NCAA rules and regulations.

  • Must have valid driver's license.


Preferred Knowledge and Skills



  • Master's degree.

  • Three to five years of previous collegiate coaching experience.


Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements


  • Standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Extensive travel is required for recruiting and during sport season to meet travel schedule.
  • Prolonged and irregular hours are necessary to meet coaching and administrative responsibilities.
