About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what's possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

The Ergonomics Engineer plays a pivotal role in ensuring that all current and future Rivian manufacturing processes meet the highest standards of human-centered design. This position requires a blend of analytical skills, cross-functional collaboration, and strategic foresight to proactively integrate ergonomic principles. Validate complex systems, and drive continuous improvement across existing facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Ergonomic Risk Assessment: Complete comprehensive assessments across the manufacturing environment utilizing the Rivian Ergonomic screening tool to identify high-risk tasks and hazards.
  • Advanced Quantitative Analysis: Execute detailed ergonomic evaluations using specialized industry-standard tools and software, including but not limited to Ergoweb, Handpack, and 3DSSPP, to quantify physical loading (force, posture, repetition).
  • Virtual Simulation: Conduct advanced 3D virtual ergonomic simulations (utilizing tools such as DELMIA, 3DSSPP, etc.) to optimize workstation layouts, task sequencing, and human-machine interfaces prior to physical fabrication and implementation.
  • Validation & Buy-off: Represent the Ergonomics team in formal Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) to verify that new equipment and systems meet established ergonomic integrity and safety criteria before production launch.
  • Post-Injury Investigation: Conduct thorough ergonomic root cause investigations for Workers' Compensation (WC) claims and injury incidents.
  • Recurrence Prevention: Develop, implement, and verify corrective actions resulting from injury incidents, with a primary focus on engineering controls to eliminate the potential for recurrence.
  • Engineering Collaboration: Report findings and collaborate directly with the Manufacturing Engineering team to solve detected ergonomic hazards through sustainable, long-term modifications.
  • Cross-Functional Support: Provide expert ergonomic coverage and strategic support across various production shops and facilities.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Systematically document all assessments, corrective actions, and process improvements within designated platforms (SharePoint, Jira) to ensure regulatory compliance and facilitate knowledge management.
  • Global Program Enhancement: Contribute to the strategic development and continuous enhancement of Rivian's global ergonomics program, policies, and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Ergonomics, Industrial Engineering, Human Factors Engineering, Occupational Health, or a related technical discipline.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in conducting quantitative ergonomic assessments (e.g., using concepts from RULA, NIOSH, Snook Tables, Strain Index).
  • Proficiency in utilizing Digital Human Modeling (DHM) software (such as DELMIA, 3DSSPP) for virtual process validation.
  • Experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement engineering controls.
