Position Details: Job Title: ASIC Test Engineer Location: Minnesota 55112 Duration: Contract to hire About the Role Join our Research & Development team for a unique opportunity to design and implement innovative ASIC technologies that power life-saving medical devices. This role involves applying hands-on problem-solving skills to deliver impactful solutions that improve patient outcomes and clinician experiences across various product lines. Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Design & Development: Design, develop, debug, modify, and test complex analog and/or digital ASIC blocks and systems using current tools, analysis techniques, and technologies.
- Architecture & Microarchitecture: Define system and subsystem requirements, make architectural trade-offs, and develop micro-architecture specifications based on performance, power, and feature requirements.
- Hardware Description Languages (HDL): Design and implement logic using hardware description languages (e.g., Verilog, SystemVerilog).
- Verification & Validation: Collaborate with verification teams, perform simulations, and conduct formal verification (RTL to Netlist) to ensure designs meet performance and reliability standards.
- Physical Design Support: Interface with physical design and layout teams, providing guidance and support to ensure designs are tape-out ready.
- Testing & Troubleshooting: Execute lab-based testing and characterization of silicon (chip bring-up), troubleshoot issues, and perform failure analysis.
- Documentation & Compliance: Create and maintain detailed engineering documentation including schematics, design specifications, requirements, test protocols/reports, and change requests in alignment with the Quality System (e.g., JIRA, Windchill).
- Collaboration: Work cooperatively within cross-functional teams (Process Development, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, and Marketing) to ensure project success.
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical support and mentorship to technicians and junior engineers, and potentially lead project activities or defined work packages.
- Innovation: Investigate, research, and select electronic circuits/components using best practices, contributing to the expansion of the company's Intellectual Property portfolio.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering field.
- [e.g., 5+ years with a Bachelor's or 3+ years with a Master's] of relevant electrical engineering experience, preferably in ASIC design.
- Proficiency in Hardware Description Languages (e.g., Verilog) and logic simulation tools.
- Hands-on lab experience using standard electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.) for testing and debugging.
- Experience with change management and issue tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, AccuRev).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to make data-based design decisions.
- Familiarity with all aspects of the ASIC design flow, including synthesis, timing analysis, and formal verification.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the medical device industry or other highly regulated environments.
- Experience using scripting languages such as Python or Perl for test automation and data analysis.
- Knowledge of analog circuit design and mixed-signal ASICs.
- Understanding of industry standards for medical devices and electronic systems (e.g., ISO).
