The PHICI Lab in the Department of Neurology at Columbia University Medical Center invites applications for the position of Associate Research Scientist. We are seeking a candidate with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Biomedical Informatics (Computational) or a related discipline who possesses strong computational and analytical expertise, demonstrated healthcare experience or interest, and a record of independent research productivity. The laboratory's mission is to derive actionable information from healthcare data to improve efficiency and quality of care in hospitalized or critically ill patients. Using physiologic monitoring devices and digitized patient data, we implement statistical and machine learning decision support tools to detect physiological state changes and identify opportunities for early intervention to change outcome. The successful applicant will work with diverse data streams, including (but not limited to) electroencephalography, intracranial pressure waveforms, thermodilution-derived cerebral blood flow, cerebral microdialysis, cardiopulmonary vital signs, brain imaging and unstructured text datasets. This position offers opportunities to support research projects, mentor trainees, collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to both methodological and translational aspects of ongoing clinical studies.
