As the Senior Freight Bill Coordinator, you will take a lead role in ensuring the accuracy, reconciliation, and timely processing of complex freight invoices that do not match estimated transportation charges. You will serve as the primary point of escalation for billing variances, partnering closely with carriers, internal transportation teams, and key stakeholders to identify discrepancies, resolve issues, and uphold financial accuracy. In this role, you will leverage your advanced attention to detail, strong analytical capabilities, and deep understanding of freight billing processes to support cost control, improve billing workflows, and contribute to the overall efficiency of Smithfield's transportation operations.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Dispute Management and Resolution: Review and validate all carrier-submitted disputes for accuracy, ensure approvals/denials align with contractual terms, reconcile exceptions to prevent payment delays, and escalate high-threshold or complex cases through the reporting chain.

  • Training and Process Documentation: Train contract carriers/vendors on the Accessorials process, document procedures and variance exceptions, and conduct root-cause analysis for totals that do not align with contractual rates and agreements.

  • Coordination and Communication: Coordinate with cross-functional teams to validate Accessorials requests, monitor daily work queues for compliant turnaround times, troubleshoot system inefficiencies, and resolve issues that impact timely carrier payments.

  • Reporting and Analysis: Review statements of account, generate daily reports for team and leadership, support special departmental projects, and participate in system testing as needed.

  • Leadership: Drives a positive employee experience through leadership by way of employee coaching.

WHAT WE'RE SEEKING:

  • Education & Experience: High School Diploma or GED and 4+ years of freight billing or related experience, required.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word; strong data management and reconciliation capabilities.

  • Analytical Skills: Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to research discrepancies, analyze variances, and resolve billing issues accurately.

  • Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with carriers, internal teams, and vendors.

  • Problem Solving: Strong critical-thinking skills with the ability to troubleshoot billing inconsistencies and identify process improvements.

  • Work Style: Highly organized, dependable, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

  • Teamwork: Ability to work well with others in a dynamic environment while being respectful, approachable, and team-oriented.

OTHER SKILLS THAT MAKE YOU STAND OUT:

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferred.
