Job Summary

The UCSF Department of Anatomy and the UCSF Bakar Aging Research Institute seeks an academic Chief Strategist) to join the newly launched UCSF Bakar Aging Research Institute (BARI) in an interdisciplinary program housed within the Department of Anatomy with faculty across all UCSF campuses. The BARI Strategist provides comprehensive academic, research, and analytical support to the Institute Director, executive committee, external advisory board, and affiliated faculty to carry out the specific aims and milestones for the Institute. The Institute will develop and expand core technologies, infrastructure, and bioinformatics, and will provide collaborative research, core services, data analysis, shared equipment. It will host an annual symposium, develop training programs, release calls for research funding proposals, facilitate training of graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, fellows and faculty, and will

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $93,600 - $140,400 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Department of Anatomy is one of five basic science departments at UCSF School of Medicine. Department activities include teaching and research at the UCSF Parnassus and Mission Bay Campuses, (and the affiliated hospitals UCSF, Mt. Zion, Mission Bay, SFGH, VAMC). The Department of Anatomy has over 350 personnel, including full time faculty, fellows, and staff, leadership in the Bakar ImmunoX Initiative, as well as the newly launched UCSF Bakar Aging Research Institute.

Required Qualifications


  • Advanced degree in related area and three years of related experience in science of aging and/ or equivalent experience / training required.
  • Academic background and experience in selected area of research.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers.
  • Solid fundraising experience.
  • Advanced computer skills (MS Office, including Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint), Outlook, email.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks; ability to meet deadlines and follow through on assigned duties; ability to work well under pressure; ability to maintain a service-oriented approach

Preferred Qualifications


  • Terminal degree in a related area (PhD, JD, MD, etc.) and / or equivalent experience / training preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices
  • Prior UCSF experience, with knowledge of HR-SRS, MyReports, MyExpense, BearBuy.
  • Familiarity with project management software.
