SUMMARY

The incumbent manages and directs the activities of the Natrium laboratory to provide the Natrium plant with accurate and reliable analyses of raw materials, process streams and products, as well as provides technical and laboratory support to assist in solving plant and customer related problems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Demonstrates strong safety culture through personal behavior and commitment to environmental, health & safety.
  • Interacts with Natrium managers, engineers and shipping coordinators regarding analytical data for shipments.
  • Maintains and approves customer specification in SAP. Troubleshoots SAP issues.
  • Develops and maintains Natrium's Lab yearly budget. Forecasts capital purchases to maintain lab reliability.
  • Provide direction, training and coaching to lab analysts and lab supervision. Ensure procedures are followed analytically, safely and cost effective.
  • Supervises and coordinates activities of personnel engaged in performing laboratory tests of a chemical and physical nature.
  • Directs and advises personnel in special test procedures to analyze components and physical properties of materials.
  • Schedules routine testing.
  • Maintains all laboratory records including certificates of analysis and calibration data.
  • Assists with customer complaints
  • Experienced and proficient in gas chromatography, ICP/MS, GC/MS, analytical chemistry, and VBA-Excel.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry
  • Five years of relevant experience
  • Successful candidates must satisfy background screening, including motor vehicle record screening, drug testing & pre-employment physical requirements before starting work.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
