Position Summary: The VHT Consultant III leads the technical execution and client management of elevator and escalator consulting projects. This position is responsible for overseeing field assessments, preparing specifications, reviewing submittals, and supporting design and modernization efforts across a range of project types. The Consultant III operates with a high degree of independence and technical authority, serving as a key resource for internal teams, clients, and external partners. In addition to managing project deliverables and client relationships, this position provides mentorship to junior staff and contributes to the division's business development efforts and process improvement initiatives. The role offers a mix of field work, report writing, client interaction, and internal collaboration in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and requires strict adherence to all relevant elevator field safety practices.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Lead and oversee complex field assessments and inspections across multiple projects.
  • Author and deliver comprehensive maintenance and modernization specifications.
  • Evaluate and approve submittals, shop drawings and performance data.
  • Direct production of VHT-specific construction drawings.
  • Provide interpretation of complex construction drawings for teams and clients.
  • Lead new elevator system design, set design standards, and provide expert guidance on integration of vertical transportation within complex projects
  • Lead advanced traffic analyses, validate and challenge assumptions and set firmwide best practices for use of Elevate or other traffic simulation tools
  • Strategically manage key client relationships across multiple projects.
  • Facilitate high-stakes client engagements.
  • Shape recommendations to align with client business/budget goals.
  • Author persuasive reports, narratives and proposals that influence decision making.
  • Drive interdisciplinary collaboration across MEPF, architecture, and commissioning
  • Oversee and mentor junior staff with accountability for quality
  • Lead internal design review meetings and ensure alignment of VHT strategy with project objectives
  • Establish quality standards and lead cross-discipline integration for new elevator design projects
  • Lead development of RFP responses and client presentations
  • Leverage relationships to generate new business and expand offerings
  • Shape project strategy through scoping, forecasting and workload planning at a portfolio scale
  • Promote Henderson as the established leader in new elevator design
  • Mentor and coach Consultant I and II level staff
  • Provide training and knowledge-sharing on industry standards, field practices, and consulting skills
  • Support the Design Manager with staff development and feedback



Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or architecture preferred
  • 5-8 years of experience in the elevator, escalator, or vertical transportation industry, or 10 or more years without a related bachelor's degree.
  • Proven expertise in spec writing, inspections, submittal review, and client consulting
  • Strong understanding of elevator system modernization and maintenance best practices
  • Familiarity with ASME A17.1, A17.2, A17.3, NFPA 70, IBC, and local code requirements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, ClickUp, and Procore
  • Excellent communication skills and technical writing ability
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly for site work
  • QEI, CEI, or similar elevator inspection certification or willingness to obtain
  • Experience with contract review, proposal writing, and client account management
  • Participation in industry organizations (NAESA, NAEC, ASME, etc.)
  • Strong mentoring and leadership capabilities
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in all core competencies as described and characterized in this job description.
  • Travel to a wide range of client sites and environments
  • Ability to traverse ladders, walk stairs, and work in tight or elevated spaces
  • Regular exposure to construction conditions including noise, dust, and moving machinery
  • Must wear PPE as required by jobsite (hard hat, steel-toe boots, safety glasses, etc.)
  • Ability to move and carry up to 50 pounds of gear or equipment
