DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, the Pharmacy Technician III will support prescribing providers in processing prior authorizations, facilitating medication access, and other activities for UCSD Health Weight Management clinics. This position will be part of the UCSD Health Centralized Prior Authorization team, so cross-training in other clinical service areas may occur in the future. Pharmacy Technicians in this setting will be responsible for following standard work supporting the prescription prior authorization process and to provide superior patient and provider experience by going above and beyond to mitigate medication access barriers. The Pharmacy Technician will facilitate the completion and submission of prior authorizations; appeals; manufacturer patient assistance programs; grants and any other financial support options. They will communicate the results and/or alternative therapies under the supervision of a pharmacists to the appropriate parties. They will understand the pharmacy payor prior authorization guidelines, assist in chart review and facilitate the patient starting therapy .

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
  • Pharmacy Technician License issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience required.
  • Thorough knowledge of pharmacy terminology and calculations.
  • Proficient computer experience and accurate data entry skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Three (3+) or more years of experience with outpatient pharmacy prescription billing.
  • Experience with Epic and/or Willow Ambulatory.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and able to promote a justifiable position.
  • Experience communicating with provider and provider office staff.
  • Flexible to address any pharmacy need that may arise, especially those that are unexpected or sudden.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $67,756 - $84,209 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $32.45 - $40.33

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
