(RN) GI/Hepatology Clinical Coordinator - 137653

This position plays a key role in ensuring that our patients receive timely, coordinated, and high-quality care. We are specifically seeking someone with a strong clinical background in liver disease and firsthand experience supporting a busy specialty clinic. Because of the complexity of our patient population, candidates must have at least two years of recent experience in General Hepatology and a minimum of two years of recent clinic triage experience.

In this role, the Clinic Nurse Coordinator will oversee a wide range of clinical and patient-facing responsibilities. A major part of the position involves triaging patient needs as they come in through various channels. This includes reviewing and prioritizing calls, messages, and concerns-particularly those related to liver disease, decompensation symptoms, medication issues, and post-procedure questions. The coordinator will provide initial clinical guidance based on established protocols, determine when a case requires escalation, and work directly with GI/Hep physicians and APPs to ensure patients receive timely evaluation and intervention.

The position is also responsible for managing Path Letters for the division. This includes preparing and sending results to patients, confirming accuracy, and coordinating with providers when additional follow-up or clarification is required. The coordinator will maintain close communication with the laboratory and clinical teams to make sure all documentation is complete and that patients clearly understand their next steps.

Symptom calls are another key component of this role. The Clinic Nurse Coordinator will respond to patients who report new or worsening symptoms, provide safe and appropriate guidance, and identify situations that require immediate action. Careful documentation is essential, as is consistent follow-through to ensure all concerns have been addressed.

This position will also manage MyChart communications for GI/Hepatology. The coordinator will review incoming messages, respond directly when appropriate, and collaborate with providers when medical decision-making is needed. Timely follow-up, patient education, and accurate documentation are expected.

Inbox management is an important operational responsibility. The Clinic Nurse Coordinator will oversee the clinical inbox to ensure that messages, external results, internal communications, and pending tasks are reviewed promptly and routed correctly. This includes monitoring the overall workflow, identifying priorities, and distributing work in a way that supports clinic efficiency and patient safety.

Care coordination is another central aspect of the role. The coordinator will help ensure that patients have the appointments, imaging, labs, procedures, and follow-up visits they need. They will work closely with schedulers, RNs, MAs, APPs, and physicians to support continuity of care, clarify treatment plans, and prevent gaps in communication.

In addition, the Clinic Nurse Coordinator will maintain accurate and compliant patient documentation, support updates to clinical processes, and assist with quality improvement work across the division. This may include helping refine triage workflows, participating in access-to-care initiatives, and supporting new clinical protocols as the division grows.

• Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.

• Must have an active California RN license.

• BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

• Must have three (3) years of experience in GI and Liver procedural and clinic triage.

• Recent experience in Gastroenterology (GI), Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Advanced Gastroenterology, Motility Disorders, and Hepatology Clinical Coordination in an ambulatory clinical setting.

• Must have experience handling specialty referrals from Epic Workqueue.

• Proficiency with Windows-based software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook. Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.

• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities, and to quickly assess moderately-complex problems to develop potential solutions.

• Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal andcommunication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.

• Demonstrates critical thinking and clinical skills to identify and implement nursing interventions andevaluate results.

• Must have excellent skills to communicate and influence effectively with all levels of staff,physicians, patients and external constituents, both verbally and in writing.

• BSN.
• Cisco experience.
• Previous ICU experience.
• Experience in ECC (Expedited Consult Clinic).

• Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
• Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
• Selected candidate may be hired at the CNIII level pending review and approval by the Nurse Executive Council.
