What to Expect
As a Process Engineering Technician at Tesla, you'll drive the implementation and continuous improvement of internal material logistics conveyance systems. This hands-on role involves operational checks, guiding teams with best practices, boosting efficiency, and ensuring material flow accuracy. Collaborating cross-departmentally, you'll design, refine, and optimize conveyance methods, layouts, and replenishment strategies to deliver materials safely and effectively for high-volume production.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Production Process Engineering, Packaging Engineering, NPI, and Factory Software, to design and enhance all aspects of material flow
Develop and implement material flow strategies for lineside part presentation, conveyance, warehousing, and related areas to support high-volume, high-complexity manufacturing Learn and utilize our internally developed material management system (MFS - Material Flow System) to configure systematic process flow steps that align with defined physical processes Prepare and maintain detailed documentation, such as process flow diagrams, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and technical reports, to support new process rollouts Support the engineering team on floor by conducting process experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and identifying opportunities for improvement, efficiency gains, cost reductions, safety enhancements, and increased productivity under the direction of process engineers Apply lean manufacturing tools (e.g., 5S, 5T, waste/loss identification, value stream mapping, work measurement, and problem-solving methodologies) to optimize manufacturing processes and material flow efficiency, including balancing aisle congestion across intersections to reduce operational costs Complete weekly reports, capturing all downtime, safety issues, equipment problems, quality concerns, material shortages, and other limiters; document incidents, interventions, and operational feedback accurately in Tesla's standard presentation format
What You'll Bring
- 2-3 years in manufacturing, warehouse operations, or material handling, with hands-on exposure to PIV operations
- Basic Proficiency with operational checks, inventory management, layout design (e.g., lineside/warehouse setups), and tools like Excel and PowerPoint for recording, monitoring, and analyzing data
Strong analytical skills for evaluating processes, identifying inefficiencies, and implementing improvements to streamline material flow and eliminate non value added activities Excellent collaboration and communication skills for cross-departmental teamwork, including providing feedback in continuous improvement loops
Essential Physical Demands
- Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain
- Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs
- Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach to install parts
- Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours a day
- Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures
- Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing
- Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, reflective vest, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
