Position Highlights

This position serves Pinal County providing programming for the 4-H Youth Development program and is based in Casa Grande, AZ. The position is full-time (1.0 FTE) The Extension Professional II works across the entire county and in collaboration with 4-H volunteers to identify, create, and implement opportunities for 4-H members, adult volunteers, and other youth in the county. Programs will emphasize personal growth, leadership development, and skill development for youth and adult volunteers through non-formal educational opportunities. The goal is to help youth develop the skills and attitudes needed to become productive and engaged citizens. This position will work with conventional 4-H clubs as well as innovative and special-interest youth programs. Responsible for volunteer and club recruitment and development efforts, as well as training and support.

This is an Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Promote and strengthen 4-H youth development through 4-H clubs, after school programs, special interest programs, and/or school enrichment.
  • Coordinate and lead the county-wide 4-H program including work with various committees, coordinating logistics, scheduling and communications with volunteers and 4-H families.
  • Recruit and train new 4-H volunteers to enable them to achieve youth development outcomes and establish new 4-H clubs across the county to ensure youth county-wide can enroll and participate in the 4-H program close to home.
  • Effectively communicate with current and potential clientele (youth and volunteers) through the development of promotion and marketing methods (using various in-person, print media, and technology options); interact with and maintain liaison role with internal and external program stakeholders to facilitate achievement of program goals and objectives.
  • Prepare periodic reports, financial statements, and records on program activities; and work with 4-H clubs to ensure timely submission of their annual financials and reports; make related financial decisions while ensuring proper, effective, and efficient use of program resources; seek external funding for program initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the 4-H program, as well as principles and concepts of youth development.
  • Knowledge of organizational development and volunteer management.
  • Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of non-formal education, marketing, and communications applications.
  • Skills in budgeting, accounting, and budget forecasting as well as fund raising and grant writing.
  • Ability to work well and communicate effectively with adults and youth from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to design and implement camp activities.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and understanding of ages and stages of human development.
  • Ability to effectively support, educate and work with individuals across various life stages with developmentally appropriate approaches.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Three years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
  • Provide own transportation, when necessary and be able to travel statewide and perform activities associated with conducting programs.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supervising youth in camp setting.
  • Teaching and volunteer management experience, formal or informal.
  • Experience managing volunteer program.
