The Life Safety Engineer designs, implements, and maintains fire alarm and life safety systems to ensure compliance with codes and standards, protect occupants, and safeguard property. This role focuses on early fire detection, smoke control, and emergency notification through advanced technologies and best practices.

Explore your tasks and responsibilities
  • Design and implement fire alarm and life safety systems for advanced technology facilities (data centers, cleanrooms, semiconductor fabs).
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA, IBC, IFC, and local codes, as well as facility-specific standards.
  • Conduct fire and life safety risk assessments for critical equipment, hazardous chemicals, and cleanroom environments.
  • Develop emergency evacuation and smoke control strategies for complex, restricted-access areas.
  • Integrate fire alarm systems with HVAC, gas monitoring, and building automation systems.
  • Oversee commissioning, testing, and maintenance of advanced detection technologies, including aspirating smoke detection for cleanrooms.
  • Prepare compliance documentation, reports, and as-built drawings for audits and regulatory reviews.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors during design and construction phases.
  • Support cleanroom operations by ensuring life safety systems do not compromise environmental controls.
  • Coordinate with facility teams to implement fire suppression solutions that protect sensitive equipment without contamination risk.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to staff on life safety systems and emergency procedures.
  • Ability to mentor and train junior staff
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Required

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Fire Protection, or related field.
  • Experience: 2-5 years of experience in fire alarm systems or life safety engineering.

Preferred

  • NICET Level II Fire Alarm Certification preferred
  • Prior experience in Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD
  • Prior experience as a consulting engineer preferred
  • Prior experience with Advanced Technology
  • Experience working within a team environment
  • Experience in the quality control review process
  • Experience contributing to continuous improvement processes
