University Animal Care, at the University of Arizona, is in search of a Materials Handler I. This position assists the Purchasing Coordinator in performing inventory of feed, bedding, PPE and other supplies used in husbandry operations and transporting supplies to all University Animal Care facilities. University Animal Care (UAC) manages multiple centralized animal facilities at the University of Arizona and oversees the campus wide animal care and use program. UAC provides assistance to scientists, physicians, staff, and students who have received Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) approval to perform research, testing, or educational studies on animal subjects. UAC ensures humane and appropriate animal care and use by providing for the animals daily needs, veterinary care, and monitoring the use of the animals by principal investigators, technical personnel, and students. UAC is devoted to maintaining a safe environment that minimizes the risk of disease or injury to the animals and the personnel who work with them. | Duties & Responsibilities |
- Perform daily inventory each morning of all facilities to ensure minimum quantities are maintained.
- Track feed, bedding, PPE and other supplies by location.
- Provide Purchasing Coordinator with lists of supplies that need to be ordered.
- Pickup and stock large animal enrichment/feed/bedding from local sources.
- Help maintain inventory tracking system and ensure accounting unit has appropriate documentation.
- Move supplies within and between facilities to maintain adequate stock.
- Load supplies into decon for entry into barrier facility.
- Coordinate vehicle maintenance and cleaning.
- Make regularly scheduled and emergency trips to Phoenix Animal Facility to move supplies and animals.
- Transport samples, checks and other items to various locations on the Tucson campus as needed.
- Transport animals between facilities under the direction of the Animal Transport Coordinator, as needed.
- Backup other procurement positions as needed.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proven self-starter with the ability to anticipate needs.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment.
- Knowledge of inventory processes and procedures.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, with an emphasis on Word and Excel.

| Minimum Qualifications |
- High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
- Prior work experience not required.
