Career Opportunity

We are looking for candidates to fill a Switching Technician position at our Wallops Island, Virginia, station. The Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC) at Wallops Island requires support in management, engineering, operations, and technical expertise for the activation, operation, maintenance, and engineering of equipment, systems, and computer programs. This support is crucial for all Naval Sea Systems Command and Program Executive Office, Integrated Warfare Systems missions and projects conducted at SCSC. SCSC offers live and simulated integrated warfare capabilities in a net-centric maritime environment, aimed at developing, testing, evaluating, and conducting fleet operations and training for the warfighter.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Carry out all duties across various skill areas with minimal direction and supervision.
  • Assess, troubleshoot, and perform preventive and corrective maintenance on Layer 1 Network Switching Systems, including APCON, PURVIS, GET, DTS, and CISCO.
  • Conduct Network Switching hardware and software installations, with the ability to plan, organize, and implement complex maintenance activities.

Travel

  • This position includes a low level of travel.

Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Networking or related field/discipline. Four additional years of demonstrated experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for a degree.
    • Two years' experience conducting Network Switching hardware and software installations, and the skills to plan, organize and implement complex maintenance activities.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Must have, or obtain within one year of onboarding, one of the following DoD 8570.01-M Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level II or Level III certifications:
    • CCNA Security
    • CySA+
    • GICSP
    • GSEC
    • Security+ CE
    • CND
    • SSCP
    • CASP+ CE
    • CCNP Security
    • CISA
    • CISSP (or Associate)
    • GCED
    • GCIH
    • CCSP

Qualifications

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance highly desired, however candidates who are eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance will be considered. If the selected candidate does not hold an active clearance, he/she will receive a contingent offer. A start date will be established once an interim Secret clearance is granted.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various work locations on base.
  • Must maintain the capability to communicate with their supervisor and/or manager when not in the office.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to frequently traverse stairs.
  • Sitting for long periods of time, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling.
  • Reaching, handling, using equipment, keyboards, and mobile devices.
  • Lifting boxes (files and supplies) up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to wear a safety harness, climb vertical ladders, and work on elevated platforms greater than 15 feet in height.
