| Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
North Carolina Central University, with a strong tradition of teaching, research, and service, prepares students to become global leaders and practitioners who transform communities. The Faculty of
NCCU are essential in achieving this mission. The Office of Faculty Professional Development (
OFPD) serves the
NCCU faculty with activities and programs designed to improve instruction in higher education. The
OFPD is a Title
III Activity and is supported by Title
III-B funding. The mission of the
OFPD is to encourage excellence in teaching through programs for course development, redesign and improvement, implementation of research-based instructional strategies, and support services to faculty that encourage instructional development and efficiency for faculty at the university and collegiate level.
The Office of Faculty Professional Development (
OFPD) is a resource dedicated to providing comprehensive programming for professional development; including creative and sustainable strategies for improved andragogy in all disciplines, support for increasing faculty productivity in research and scholarship, and innovative approaches to assessment and evaluation. The
OFPD encourages excellence in teaching through programs for course development and improvement, implementation of new instructional technologies, and support services to faculty that encourage instructional development and efficiency in the workplace.

| Primary Purpose of Position |
Position exercises assistance with the oversight of the operations of the Office of Faculty Professional Development, which focuses on faculty development at the university and collegiate level which includes programs and initiatives designed to support and improve the skills, knowledge, and effectiveness in their roles as teachers, researchers, and leaders. The position includes offering training, workshops, mentoring, and consultations aimed at enhancing professional growth in areas like teaching methods, research, leadership, and career advancement. These efforts help faculty members better meet institutional goals and improve student learning outcomes. The position includes maintaining a familiarity with current research and innovations in faculty development related to the field of teaching and learning, student development and formal teaching/training. The purpose of the position is to co-facilitate programs and activities related to teaching and learning, curriculum (re)design, technology in the classroom, academic leadership, and assessment of program activities and impact. |
| Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
The Assistant Coordinator of the
OFPD should have an extensive knowledge of andragogy and pedagogical practices conducive to student achievement; with the ability to champion strategies for a sense of belonging and for an increasingly changing student body and faculty community. The candidate should have strong presentation and engagement skills in both virtual and face-to-face settings; possess exceptional interpersonal skills and technology skills; and be able to demonstrate the use of instructional technologies and social media platforms. The successful individual is expected to take a collaborative approach to the implementation of talent development processes to ensure faculty efficacy and support institutional effectiveness. |
| Minimum Education/Experience |
The candidate must hold a Master's degree, a minimum of three (3) years of experience in faculty development supporting teaching at the college level. The candidate should have experience in faculty professional development at the university or collegiate level.
Preferred: A background with a
STEM focus and Doctoral Degree. A background with at least 1 year of experience managing and supporting the reporting requirements for faculty development programs funded through Title
III and administering in accordance to the Title
III program. |

- Plan, implement, and evaluate the Unit's range of faculty development programs and activities to champion university excellence in teaching and learning in General Education Courses.
- Create campus teaching initiatives and programs to support innovative teaching, learning, assessment, use of technologies in the classroom, and course redesign for courses with high D, F grades, and withdrawal rates.
- Develop instructional sessions for early-career faculty and adjunct instructors.
- Acquaint the NCCU community with important innovations and emerging technologies for teaching focused on methods used for faculty in higher education.

- Establish and present workshops and trainings to promote teaching strategies that encourage active learning, educational effectiveness, student engagement, and classroom inquiry.
- Develop effective procedures to assess and document student learning.
- Participate actively in campus and national initiatives related to assessment and innovation in university teaching.
- Design, maintain, and launch marketing platforms for the OFPD professional development activities including website, social media, and flyers.
