The purpose of this building maintenance position is to maintain City facilities, with a primary focus on security systems and access controls. Responsibilities include installing, repairing, and servicing security cameras, door hardware, and related equipment, coordinating with staff and departments to minimize operational disruptions, and maintaining records of service and repairs. Other maintenance duties may be assigned as needed. This position does not provide direction to other employees.

Essential Functions

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

  • Performs installation, setup, and maintenance of facility security and access control systems for City of Allen buildings, including security cameras, video surveillance systems, door strikes, door hardware, automatic gates, automatic door openers, cabling, and related access control hardware. Work involves cleaning and adjusting cameras and lenses, installing new equipment, replacing worn or damaged locks, readers, and strikes, and ensuring all systems operate efficiently.
  • Provides system support for cameras and card readers in connection with Video Management System (VMS) and access control software. Identifies and reports issues requiring IT or vendor assistance related to potential server or software problems. Maintains detailed records in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), including repair logs, service calls, and inventory of parts. Familiarity with DNA Fusion/Open Options and/or XProtect Milestone systems is preferred.
  • Coordinates with City staff, IT, and other departments to schedule installations and repairs related to security and access control systems. Ensures network connectivity requirements are met and provides basic guidance to City staff as needed. Performs work in a manner that minimizes disruption to daily operations across all facilities.
  • Preforms basic facility maintenance tasks as requested by the Building Foreman, supporting the overall upkeep and operation of City facilities.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience
Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional and/or technical field. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • High School diploma or equivalent plus two (2) years of relevant work experience (security cameras, access controls, or low-voltage systems is preferred)
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered

Certification and Other Requirements
  • Valid Class C Texas Driver's License
  • Low Voltage or Locksmith License, preferred
  • Manufacturer Certifications, preferred
    • XProtect Milestone
    • DNAFusion
  • Security systems diagnostics background or certification, preferred

Special Requirements
  • Must be able to pass required pre-employment screenings, CJIS and fingerprint check, and have the ability to comply with state and federal requirements for Criminal Justice Information Security standards.

  • Using hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely and effectively
  • Basic troubleshooting of security hardware and VMS/access control software issues
  • Maintaining accurate records in CMMS, including repair logs, service calls, and inventory
  • Coordinating work with staff, IT, and vendors to minimize disruption to daily operations
  • Communicating effectively with staff, other departments, and the public
  • Prioritizing tasks and managing time efficiently

Physical Demands / Work Environment:
