Academic Affairs ("AA") is headed by the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs who serves as the institution's Chief Academic Officer ("CAO") and is responsible for administering academic policies. AA is comprised of each of the university's colleges, schools, and libraries, along with other academic support and administrative units, to include Learner Operations, Research, Innovation and Engagement, Institutional Planning, Assessment and Research, and Global Affairs. Academic Affairs works collaboratively to strengthen ECU's culture of academic excellence in line with our mission to be a national model for student success, public service, and regional transformation. |

The Vice Provost for Academic Affairs will provide leadership to ensure the operational elements of the division of Academic Affairs division are well aligned with fulfilling ECU's mission to be a national model for student success, public service, and regional transformation. This position reports directly to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The Vice Provost will assist in overseeing and implementing policies and programs in Academic Affairs Central and collaborate with counterparts at other
UNC System Campuses to develop, refine, and implement academic initiatives.
Key responsibilities include:
50% Administrative Oversight:
This role serves as the Chief Operating Officer for Academic Affairs and oversees the daily operations of the division. This role will oversee and coordinate operational arms of Academic Affairs, to include Faculty Affairs, Institutional Planning Assessment and Research (
IPAR), and Global Affairs. This includes coordinating with university central functions around personnel as well as support for financial management in Academic Affairs. This role will actively engage in the development and refinement of budgetary frameworks, working closely with academic departments to evaluate how resources are distributed across units. This role's efforts will focus on aligning financial strategies with institutional goals, ensuring that funding is utilized efficiently and strategically to advance academic priorities. The Vice Provost also will play a pivotal role in cultivating a culture that values data-informed decision-making, helping to guide the assessment and enhancement of academic policies, monitor student learning outcomes, and contribute to continuous improvements in institutional performance.
40% Strategic Leadership:
The Vice Provost will serve as a collaborator and leader with partners across the
ECU campus in pursuit of excellence in campus policies and processes and will serve on behalf of the Provost when needed. In this capacity, the Vice Provost will work closely with academic deans, department chairs, and senior administrative leaders to foster collaborative relationships that drive strategic advancement across the university. The focus will be on identifying and pursuing opportunities that enhance faculty support systems, improve administrative infrastructure, and elevate the overall quality and effectiveness of academic programs.
10% Other Duties and Special Projects:
As one of the senior officers reporting to the Provost, this position also assists the Provost in continuously improving the effectiveness of Academic Affairs, including building and leveraging internal and external relationships, special projects to respond to emerging needs or leverage new opportunities; working with leadership in the Office of Research and the Office of Innovation and Engagement to cultivate partnerships with regional educational organizations, industry leaders, and community stakeholders to expand the university's impact and visibility; serving as a representative of the institution in professional organizations, academic consortia, and accreditation agencies to maintain high academic standards and compliance; and other duties as assigned by the Provost.

Terminal degree with five years of administrative leadership experience with a broad understanding of campus operations and faculty processes. |

Possesses the credentials, experience, and documented achievements appropriate for appointment as a tenured Associate Professor or Professor.
Demonstrated experience or foundational knowledge in Health Sciences disciplines. |
