Who we are and what we do:

The Wellness Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the Working for a Healthier Tennessee (WFHTN) initiative. The position interacts directly with multiple departmental wellness councils forming partnerships to leverage resources and build a sustainable culture of health and wellness in state government. The position will function as a consulting member of the States Population Health program in strategic planning and serve as a wellness expert on projects incorporating physical activity, healthy eating and well-being. Expected monthly salary is $5,647 to $7,326. The experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the selected candidate will determine the actual salary offer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • When requested, statewide travel up to 15% of the time, including some overnight travel. Independently and collaboratively develop and implement activities, challenges, presentations and other content specific to the programs focus areas (physical activity, healthy eating and well-being) using demonstrated best practices and creative thinking.
  • Continually evaluate and enhance program delivery through wellness council feedback.
  • Plan and deliver wellness council in-person and virtual trainings and meetings.
  • Review and approve department budget requests for WFHTN.
  • Assist with data collection and analysis for reporting quarterly and annual WFHTN metrics.
  • When requested, attend meetings with the Population Health team and Contractor for the Partners for Health Wellness Program.
  • Collaborate with Assistant Director of Population Health to explore partnerships to increase the WFHTN initiative reach and improve the culture of state government.
  • Ensure all materials and information provided on the WFHTN website and social media sites comply with Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
  • Attend department meetings and conferences to promote resources available through the Partners for Health Wellness and Employee Assistance Programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. A minimum of two years of experience in the delivery and coordination of health and wellness promotion or worksite wellness;
  2. undergraduate degree in health promotion, exercise science or related field required;
  3. masters degree is highly desirable but not required;
  4. strong understanding of health behavior change theory, health promotion and disease prevention;
  5. strong interpersonal communication/presentation skills, leadership skills (verbal and written) and customer service skills including the ability to motivate others;
  6. ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team with enthusiasm, initiative, originality, creativity and attention to detail;
  7. ability to effectively and simultaneously manage multiple wellness campaigns/initiatives;
  8. proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including at minimum Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and OneDrive.
