Job Summary:

The AMC Curriculum Program Director provides strategic and operational leadership for the design, delivery, and continuous enhancement of the medical school curriculum within Undergraduate Medical Education (UME). The role oversees curriculum planning, policy alignment, accreditation support, data-informed quality improvement, personnel development, and innovation efforts-including IT projects, AI integration, and emerging educational models. The Program Director works closely with faculty, academic leadership, and regional campuses to ensure consistent, compliant, and high-quality curriculum delivery while contributing operational expertise to UME's strategic and accreditation priorities.

Supervision Received:

  • This position reports to the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Medical Education and Student Affairs (UMESA), with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Associate and Assistant Deans in UME. It operates with minimal supervision in the performance of its duties.

Supervision Exercised:

  • This role has direct supervisory responsibility for 2-3 managers, including two curriculum managers within UME and one manager for the Medical Teaching Labs. It also provides indirect oversight of 29 exempt professional staff across UME Curriculum, the Colorado Springs Branch, and the Fort Collins Regional Campus.

  • Recruit, train, and mentor Curriculum and Program Managers.

  • Lead staff development aligned with personal/professional goals.

  • Provide ongoing training on curriculum policies and customer service.

  • Promote teamwork and communication across educational units.

  • Drive continuous quality improvement and process optimization.

  • Ensure staff and managers have tools/resources for success.

  • Maintain a central curriculum policy repository.

  • Collaborate with faculty to meet curriculum delivery needs.

  • Lead operational aspects of curriculum in the medical program.

  • Oversee student data processes and ensure FERPA/accreditation compliance.

  • Use data and lead committees to improve curriculum quality.

  • Support accreditation through data collection and compliance.

  • 25% - Curriculum Strategic Support

  • Manage curriculum policies and ensure integration across phases and pillars.

  • Facilitate meetings and track curriculum priorities.

  • Collaborate with assessment teams on CQI and student advocacy. This includes using independent judgement to review, analyze, and deconstruct processes to attain optimal efficiency and productivity.

  • Work with departments and their leaders to solve curricular needs and delivery strategies.

  • Create process maps and visualizations for curriculum cycles.

  • Ensure consistent curriculum delivery across campuses.

  • Strategize with Curriculum Deans and manage committee staffing.

  • Meet curriculum goals and objectives at AMC and FCB. Collaborate with regional campus leadership to ensure comparability in delivery.

  • Continuously improve curriculum operations and efficiency.

  • Optimize resources and ensure compliance with standards across all phases of the curriculum.

  • Serve as an expert on IT, change, and reform projects.

  • Develop and implement strategic curriculum plans.

  • Exercises authority for decision making in absence of Curriculum Deans.

  • 20% - Personnel Leadership and Development

  • Mentor managers to build strong front-line leadership.

  • Resolve daily operational issues collaboratively.

  • Ensure fairness in evaluations, hiring, and compensation.

  • Address conflicts and performance concerns.

  • Create strategic staffing plans for retention and succession strategies.

  • 20% - Innovation and Growth Leader

  • Collaborate on new student learning initiatives.

  • Stay current with medical education trends and innovations.

  • Lead AI integration into curriculum.

  • Oversee 3-Year Accelerated Pathway operations and Precision Med Ed as it relates to curricular operations.

  • Support curriculum events and sessions.

  • Serve as the curricular expert on project teams related to IT development, organizational change, and/or continued curriculum reform

  • Allocate, advocate and plan personnel needs in line with innovation and growth.

  • 10% - Budgetary and Procurement Responsibilities

  • Coordinate vendor contracts and payments with UME Business Services.

  • Oversee procurement in line with university policies.

  • Collaborate on budget planning to include labor and expense optimization.

  • Work with campuses to improve staffing and operational efficiency.

  • 10% - Office of Medical Education Leadership

  • Serve as administrative leader supporting UME's mission.

  • Ensure LCME compliance and streamline communication.

  • Contribute to strategic leadership meetings with operational insights.

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, business, public administration, health care, educational technology, social science, liberal arts, communications, accounting, finance, library science, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.

  • 6-8 years of progressively responsible professional experience in an accredited higher education environment, including supervisory experience overseeing full-time professional staff.

  • An advanced degree (Masters or Doctorate) may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis if the degree is in a field of study directly related to the work assignment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A master's degree in a relevant

  • Significant operational and management experience (ideally 8+ years) in a large or higher education environment.

  • Experience with integrated student information systems.

  • Extensive experience working with medical students and familiarity with LCME/ACGME operational requirements.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $77,281-$$98,301.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
