About the Department of Nutrition

The Department of Nutrition at MSU Denver aims to prepare diverse students for successful careers in food, nutrition, and dietetics by providing quality education that is culturally sensitive and instills a desire for lifelong learning. This department is home to award-winning faculty and staff, who prioritize students and provide opportunities to grow and learn in the field of nutrition and dietetics. The Department of Nutrition houses undergraduate and graduate programs, including a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics and a Master of Science in Nutrition. The Department is also home to accredited programs, including undergraduate and graduate-level Didactic Programs in Dietetics (DPD), a Dietetic Internship Program, and a Pathway Two Lactation Training Program. Position Summary

The Department of Nutrition at MSU Denver invites applications for a Graduate Admissions and Advising Coordinator. This position oversees graduate admissions and academic advising for the Department of Nutrition, serving as the primary point of contact for prospective and current students. It manages all aspects of the admissions process, provides individualized academic guidance, and collaborates with faculty and campus partners to support student success. Additionally, the role contributes to strategic enrollment planning through data analysis and participates in departmental initiatives, events, and ongoing process improvements.

Responsibilities

Admissions Coordination - 45%

  • Serve as the first point of contact and primary admissions advisor for all Department of Nutrition graduate programs.
  • Provide proactive advising and support to prospective students through phone, virtual, and in-person meetings.
  • Evaluate applicants for eligibility and conduct transcript audits for prerequisite and admission requirements including assessment of eligibility into accelerated program.
  • Ensure that all application materials are complete, accurate, and received by deadlines.
  • Develop, maintain, and update admissions materials, timelines, and communications in the admissions system (Slate).
  • Coordinate admissions committee review processes, including preparing application packets and supporting reviewers.
  • Facilitate the timely release of admission decisions and communication with applicants.
  • Implement and maintain equitable, accessible admissions documents and processes.
  • Coordinate and participate in recruitment, admissions and orientation events, campus tours, and outreach activities (some evening/weekend work required).
  • Serve as point of contact for the MSN orientation module, timely adding new students, and deleting the graduated students. Also making sure that the orientation module is current and relevant.
  • Collaborate with University offices to align departmental admissions efforts with institutional recruitment and enrollment strategies.
  • Participate in continuous assessment and improvement of admissions processes.

Academic Advising - 45%

  • Serve as the primary academic advisor for all graduate Nutrition students, providing proactive advising in-person, by phone, email, and virtual platforms.
  • Create individualized academic plans for completion for all graduate students in the Department of Nutrition.
  • Provide guidance on program requirements, course sequencing, registration, and academic policies.
  • Assign faculty advisors for incoming graduate students.
  • Assist students with understanding financial aid and scholarship processes and connect them with appropriate University resources.
  • Coordinate and participate in advising campaigns, orientations, and workshops designed to support student onboarding and academic planning.
  • Collaborate with faculty advisors and other campus partners to ensure effective student communication and support.
  • Utilize University systems (Navigate, Banner, Degree Works, BI Launchpad, etc.) to manage advising communications and track student progress.
  • Train new faculty or staff in advising procedures and systems.
  • Maintain accurate advising documentation and ensure enrollment records are up to date.

Strategic Enrollment Management and Data Collection - 5%

  • Compile and analyze data from admissions and advising processes to inform predictive analytics and enrollment planning.
  • Provide reports and recommendations to the Department Chair, program directors, and supervisor to support decision-making related to course scheduling, staffing, and program development.

Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

  • Graduate alumni support and engagement.
  • Serve as a corporate cardholder and complete all required training related to purchasing and travel.
  • Participate in departmental and University initiatives, committees, and events as needed.

Job Skills, Knowledge, and Competencies

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; computer and technological proficiency with the ability to learn new systems, software, and tools
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills with ability to meet deadlines through effective planning, prioritization, and time management
  • The ability to communicate professionally and effectively in writing and verbally with a wide variety of constituents

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience working in a higher education setting
  • Professional advising experience or admissions experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Experience working with Slate
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience working with a diverse student population

Schedule Information

  • Full time, 40 hours per week
  • Exempt
  • Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

  • Schedule: Hybrid schedule with in person work as well as some remote flexibility
  • Travel: Rarely

Salary for Announcement

Under Colorado law, MSU Denver is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The anticipated hiring range that the university reasonably expects to pay for this position is $54,000 - $60,000.

This position is paid monthly and is eligible for MSU Denver benefits.
