Position Overview

Primary Purpose of the Position
A significant result of the nursing shortage is the limited number of qualified nurse educators. To meet the instructional needs, adjunct faculty are an integral part of the curriculum and faculty structure in the Division of Nursing ( DON). Without adjunct faculty, the DON would be unable to meet the nursing program's instructional needs. Adjunct faculty positions allow DON to hire experienced nurse educators, clinicians, and practitioners to assist in meeting the division's mission, vision, and objectives. Adjunct faculty focuses principally on excellence in instruction and engagement. In addition to their instructional responsibilities in the classroom, clinical, and/or online environments, adjunct faculty provide clinical and practicum supervision of nursing students; and collaborate and develop professional relationships with healthcare agencies, professional organizations, and other constituencies. Adjunct faculty are critical to the implementation of the curriculum, instruction, and supervision of students and success in meeting learning outcomes. Adjunct faculty coach and mentor students during the academic experience and beyond.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Family Nurse Practitioner ( FNP) concentration prepares graduates to provide comprehensive primary care to patients, across a broad range of health care settings, especially underserved and disadvantaged patients, and those of diverse ethnicity. The FNP curriculum includes 51 credit hours and 672 practicum hours. Full-time students complete the curriculum in two years, while the part-time students complete the curriculum in three years.
FNP graduates are eligible to sit for the American Association of Nurse Practitioners ( AANP) or American Nurses Credentialing Center ( ANCC) National Family Nurse Practitioner Certification exam
