Overview

The Electric Boat Machine Shop, located in Groton, CT, has been the leading manufacturer of high-profile and intricate submarine components manufactured out of exotic materials such as Inconel, Monel, K-Monel and Titanium. Electric Boat is seeking to hire an Operations Supervisor to join its team to support meeting the needs of company growth driven by Columbia and Virginia Class programs.

The selected individual will supervise the daily functions of approximately 15- 20 machinists in the Groton Machine Shop to ensure maximum use of manpower and resources. They will provide guidance and support through hiring, training and employee development. They will also provide technical support to operators of various large/small horizontal boring mill (HBM), Vertical Lathe (VTC's), Horizontal Lathe, Vertical Milling and Grinding machinery. The selected individual must possess a strong background working in a high-mix, low-volume job shop environment and be proficient in the setup and operation of any of the machinery described above.

Responsibilities:

Control the daily quality production goals in accordance with prescribed production plans. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, improve Work Order span times, stream-line work processes and work cooperatively to deliver a quality product. Attention to detail and compliance is a must. Analyze safety policies and procedures to ensure safety goals/objectives are met daily. Manages trade schedule and cost performance and provide daily updates to the General Foreman. Ensures hourly evaluation system is managed properly in accordance with establish policies and procedures. Other responsibilities and duties as may be required or assigned in order to meet operational goals and objectives.

The selected individual must be highly motivated as well as goal oriented with strong interpersonal skills; must be able to promote a positive team environment; must have the ability to interact with all levels of management and NAVSEA/SUPSHIP/NR representatives; ability to interface with Human Resources and Employee Relations to resolve concerns.



Qualifications

Required:

    High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have experience in supporting the machining of large or small, complex mechanical components on HBM's, VTC's, Lathes, Mills, etc.
  • 3+ years of experience working in a ISO 9001/9100 certified machine shop

Preferred:

  • Previous Working Lead experience
  • 5 years of Supervisory/Working Lead experience, along with, competence in EWP, MRP and MS Office products, and other related programs.
  • 5 years of machining experience
  • Completion of Apprentice Program or a College Degree


Skills

  • Practical knowledge of precision measurement practices and instruments
  • Thorough knowledge of machining data (i.e. speeds, feeds, tooling) for cutting a variety of materials (Steels, Stainless Steels, Monel, K-Monel, Inconel, Bronze, Titanium, etc.)
  • Willingness to work 2nd or 3rd Shift as required
  • Competence in interpretation of mechanical drawings and blueprints.
  • Thorough understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
  • Ability to compute mathematical problems including, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Able to read and interpret EB procedures and related reference documents

  • Self-starter
  • Ability obtain and maintain a Secret Level Security Clearance as a condition of employment.
  • Applicant must be familiar/proficient with test procedures of new construction/over-haul of major components.
  • Applicant must be familiar with the assembly and test of hull valves and trunks
  • Good presentation skills
