The salary range for this position is $105,700 - $129,600 (annual). "Off-scale salaries" and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications, and experience. Application Window Open date: December 1, 2025 Next review date: Friday, Jan 16, 2026 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Tuesday, Jun 30, 2026 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description The Department of Animal Science in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of California, Davis is recruiting an Assistant Professor of Teaching in Applied Animal Science with a focus on the care, management, and productivity of domesticated animals including, but not limited to, companion animals, livestock, or poultry. The appointee will be expected to carry out high-level and innovative teaching consistent with Department goals. The appointee will be required to teach up to six undergraduate courses per year in the departmental undergraduate curricula as assigned by the department chair; teaching assignments are based on enrollment, scope (classroom, field, laboratory) and needs of the unit as well as career stage and expertise of the appointee. Example courses to be taught include introductory-level courses such as ANS 2 Introduction to Animal Science, ANS 41 Domestic Animal Production, ANS 41L Domestic Animal Production Lab, or ANS 42 Introductory Companion Animal Biology, as well as upper-level production courses such as ANS 142 Companion Animal Care, ANS 143 Pig and Poultry Care and Management, or ANS 144 Beef Cattle and Sheep Production. The appointee could also develop upper division laboratory courses. The appointee will also be expected to be involved in student advising, guiding internships and/or developing extracurricular opportunities to develop workforce and professional skills and enhance networking capability with future employers. The appointee will also be expected to demonstrate continued professional growth and contribute to the university mission through service activities. Examples of professional growth may involve some or all of the following: (i) research and publication in the candidate's subject-matter discipline, (ii) pedagogical or curricular innovation, (iii) research and publication on pedagogy, (iv) professional activity in professional organizations, and (v) academic leadership within the University beyond normal service obligations. This recruitment is conducted at the assistant rank. The resulting hire will be at the assistant rank, regardless of the appointee's qualifications. Initial review of applications will be conducted using anonymized versions of the Statement of Teaching Accomplishments and Interests. Applications demonstrating sufficient potential based on this review will be advanced to full review. Full-time Equivalent (FTE) This position will be recruited at the rank of Assistant Professor of Teaching. This is a academic year (9-month) position with the potential for security of employment (equivalent to tenure track). Availability of Space and Resources Office and laboratory space will be provided by the Department of Animal Science on the UC Davis central campus. Faculty share administrative, accounting, and clerical staff. In addition to laboratory, large animal and avian resources on central campus, our faculty have access to UC Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) research and extension centers (REC), the UC Davis Bodega Marine Laboratory, and UC Davis core facilities.
