Overview
Join the Access Services team at USU Libraries as a Student Coordinator supporting USU students, faculty, staff, and all library visitors in their learning and research.

The Student Coordinator is primarily responsible for directly supervising hourly student employees in the Access Services Unit. As a part of Access Services, this position supports the library's mission of supporting all people in discovering, creating, and sharing knowledge and diverse perspectives.

Reporting to the Head of Access Services, this is a full-time position eligible for excellent benefits including: 13 paid holidays, 12 days of paid leave and 12 days of sick leave per year, competitive health benefits packages, and a generous contribution of 14.2% (without an employee contribution) into your retirement. Hours may vary but are typically Monday - Friday 10:00am - 7:00pm.

Responsibilities
  • Hire, train, and supervise a team of 15-20 student employees
  • Create and coordinate the semester work schedule for hourly staff
  • Maintain, adapt, and provide an hourly employee training program for student employees
  • Work regular shifts at the library service points
  • Propose and develop updates to the policies and procedures of the unit
  • Calculate general budget projections
  • Contribute to assessment efforts through data collection and tracking
  • Serve as a liaison between students, faculty, staff, other departments, and/or external constituents as needed
  • Serve on the Student Supervisor Working Group

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Four years of library experience; or an associate degree plus two years of experience; or a bachelor's degree
  • Experience working with customer services

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Records maintenance experience
  • Experience handling sensitive information
  • Experience managing a budget
  • Experience with supervision and training
  • Experience working in a public or academic library

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and alone with little or no immediate supervision
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with library employees and USU students, faculty, and staff, as well as community patrons
  • Ability to work with computer software applications, such as Word, Excel, and other applications
  • Ability to manage workloads and priorities of self and team members
  • Demonstrated ability to manage change and remain flexible regarding work assignments
