Description

We are hiring an Engagement Coordinator who will be responsible for the overall management, administration, and engagement of the Meyer May House - a historic and cultural asset.

As the primary public-facing representative, this role ensures a welcoming, educational, and memorable experience for all visitors, including the general public, corporate clients, community partners, and group tours. As a storyteller and ambassador, this role brings the history and significance of the house to life for diverse audiences, fostering community engagement and supporting Steelcase's broader impact initiatives.

  • Oversee all aspects of daily operations at the Meyer May House, ensuring smooth, safe, and efficient functioning.
  • Serve as the primary public representative, delivering engaging tours and presentations to a wide range of audiences.
  • Recruit, schedule, train, and provide feedback to volunteer docents; foster a positive and inclusive team culture.
  • Collaborate cross-functional with internal teams (sales, client experiences, IT, catering, finance, marketing) to support events, visits, and outreach initiatives.
  • Develop and implement strategies to evolve the business model for long-term sustainability.
  • Promote the Meyer May House through marketing, outreach, and community engagement activities.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, business ethics, applicable laws, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Respond to and resolve visitor issues or emergencies with professionalism and sound judgment.
  • Periodically reconciled physical assets to accounting records.
  • Collaborate with facilities to monitor the physical condition of the Meyer May House and related properties; generate maintenance requests and coordinate building access for contractors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in museum studies, history, public administration, or related fields.
  • At least three years of experience in museum management, historic site administration, or public engagement.
  • Experience managing public-facing volunteers (docents preferred).
  • Experience working in a corporate or cross-functional environment.

This role is based in both the Meyer May House and our corporate office. Evening or weekend work may be required for events and corporate visits. Time off in lieu will be provided, as agreed with your leader.

  • Outstanding public speaking and interpersonal skills; able to engage diverse audiences.
  • Strong leadership and team management, especially in supervising and training volunteer docents.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal corporate teams and external partners.
  • Monitor the physical condition of the Meyer May House and related properties, generate maintenance requests, and coordinate building access for contractors.
  • Knowledge of museum operations, historic preservation, and visitor services.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, and project management skills.
  • Proficiency in standard Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint).
