Weston is seeking a GIS Administrator. The GIS Enterprise Administrator will own the administration, performance, and reliability of our Esri ArcGIS Enterprise platform across Azure and AWS. This role sits at the intersection of GIS and IT: and will manage ArcGIS Enterprise, optimize enterprise geodatabases (SDE), tune and monitor map/feature services using ArcGIS Monitor, and collaborate with infrastructure, data, and project teams to support high-availability, client-facing geospatial solutions. Location: Remote Expected Outcomes ArcGIS Enterprise Administration
- Install, configure, and maintain ArcGIS Enterprise components (Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Data Store, web adaptors, and related extensions).
- Manage multi-machine ArcGIS Server sites, high-availability Portal/Data Store configurations, and staging/production environments.
- Plan and execute ArcGIS Enterprise upgrades, patches, and security updates with minimal downtime.
Cloud Platform Management (Azure & AWS)
- Administer ArcGIS Enterprise deployments in Azure and AWS, including IaaS/PaaS services, storage, load balancers, and networking.
- Work with cloud engineers to design resilient architectures (e.g., autoscaling, backups, DR, multi-region or hybrid environments).
- Support integration with other cloud services (e.g., application gateways, VPNs, storage accounts, RDS/Managed SQL).
Esri Enterprise License Management
- Administer Esri ArcGIS Enterprise licensing across Portal, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGIS Pro, ensuring proper allocation of Named Users, extensions, and service credits.
- Maintain and monitor Esri license files, entitlement records, and renewals
- Coordinate with Esri Customer Service and internal procurement to ensure compliance.
- Manage ArcGIS Enterprise User Types, Roles, and Groups; implement governance rules that align with security and implementation models.
- Track license utilization, usage trends, and capacity.
Enterprise Geodatabase / SDE Administration
- Configure and manage enterprise geodatabases (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle) used by ArcGIS Enterprise.
- Implement and maintain versioning, replication, indexing, compression, and maintenance routines for performance and reliability.
- Collaborate with GIS data teams on schema design, data lifecycle, and optimization for heavy map/feature service workloads.
Performance Monitoring, Optimization & ArcGIS Monitor
- Configure and maintain ArcGIS Monitor (or Esri System Monitor) to track service health, response times, and resource utilization.
- Proactively analyze logs and metrics to identify bottlenecks in services, databases, and infrastructure.
- Tune service parameters, caching strategies, pooling, and infrastructure sizing to improve performance and stability.
Security, Governance & Compliance
- Coordinate with IT Security team to implement and maintain security best practices for Portal, Server, and databases (roles, groups, sharing models, SSL, firewalls, IP restrictions).
- Coordinate with IT security on hardening, identity management (AD/SSO), and vulnerability remediation.
- Enforce governance standards for service publishing, naming conventions, and content lifecycle.
Collaboration, Support & Documentation
- Serve as the primary point of contact for ArcGIS Enterprise issues and requests from GIS analysts, developers, and project teams.
- Support publishing and troubleshooting of map/image/feature services, including integration with web apps, dashboards, and third-party systems.
- Develop and maintain documentation for system architecture, SOPs, runbooks, and knowledge base articles.
Continuous Improvement, AI Enablement & Automation
- Identify opportunities to automate deployments, configuration, and maintenance using scripting (Python, PowerShell).
- Stay current on Esri, Azure, and AWS roadmaps and recommend enhancements to support the firm's digital and geospatial strategy.
- Ensures geospatial data is stored, indexed, and accessible in formats optimized for AI/ML processing.
- Facilitates connections between GIS platform and AI tools such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Azure ML, enabling seamless model deployment and inference.
- Designs and maintains automated pipelines that feed spatial data into AI models for tasks like object detection or predictive analytics.
- Tracks performance of AI-enhanced GIS services and optimizes system resources for scalability and responsiveness.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in GIS, Computer Science, Information Systems, Geography, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 8-10 years in a role primarily involving GIS.
- 3-5+ years administering Esri ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal, Server, Data Store) in production environments.
- Hands-on experience deploying and managing ArcGIS Enterprise in cloud environments (Azure and/or AWS), ideally in hybrid architectures.
- Strong experience with enterprise geodatabases/SDE (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or Oracle), including performance tuning, indexing, and maintenance.
- Demonstrated experience monitoring and tuning ArcGIS Enterprise environments using ArcGIS Monitor or similar tools.
- Solid understanding of Windows Server administration; familiarity with Linux is a plus.
- Proficiency with scripting/automation (Python, PowerShell, or similar).
- Proficiency with GeoAI techniques and awareness of ESRI's pretrained AI models
- Experience troubleshooting complex performance and connectivity issues across apps, services, databases, and infrastructure.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Experience in AEC, environmental, utilities, or infrastructure projects, especially supporting project teams with high-volume map/feature services.
- Experience with DevOps / IaC tools (Terraform, ARM/Bicep, CloudFormation, CI/CD pipelines) for automating infrastructure and application deployments.
- Familiarity with additional Esri components (ArcGIS Pro, ArcPy, ArcGIS API for Python, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Image Server, GeoAnalytics).
- Experience with FME, ETL pipelines, or APIs integrating ArcGIS with other enterprise systems (asset management, work order, ERP).
- Esri or cloud certifications (Esri Enterprise Administration, Azure Administrator/Architect, AWS Solutions Architect, etc.).
- Hands-on experience administering license management within ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal + ArcGIS Server) and ArcGIS Online.
- Strong knowledge of Esri User Types, Roles, privileges, extension bundles, and license models.
- Ability to interpret and maintain Esri entitlement records, ELA terms, and renewal cycles; experience supporting annual audits or compliance reviews.

Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Salary Range: $85,895-$113,570-$141,143
