Position Summary

The Head of Content will lead the development, execution and management of the content strategy across publishing operations. This includes editorial direction, content creation, workflow management, aligning content with business objectives, growing audience engagement, and ensuring the quality and consistency of brand voice. The person will supervise content teams (writers, editors, designers) and work cross-functionally with marketing, sales, production and operations.



  • Develop and own content strategy: define what types of content (books, digital, audio, video, articles) the company will produce, for which audiences, on what platforms/channels.
  • Define and maintain brand voice, tone, style guidelines, editorial standards.
  • Build, manage and mentor the content team: editors, writers, content producers, freelancers. Hire as needed.
  • Oversee and direct the editorial calendar and content production workflow: from ideation assignment creation editing publication/distribution.
  • Ensure content aligns with business goals (sales, subscriptions, audience growth, engagement, brand positioning).
  • Collaborate with marketing/sales/operations teams to ensure content supports campaigns, product launches, and audience growth.
  • Use analytics and data to measure content performance (e.g., readership, downloads, engagement, conversion, membership) and iterate strategy accordingly.
  • Build subscriptions to the company newsletter and memberships.
  • Build new audiences both through organic traffic as well as paid ads to ensure the website is a revenue generating mechanism for the company.
  • Expand platform to grow digital advertising. Work hand in hand with the sales department to drive revenue.
  • Manage budget for content production, freelance costs, tools/subscriptions.
  • Stay current on publishing trends, content technologies, platforms and emerging formats (digital, audio, interactive).
  • Ensure consistency across formats (print, digital, audio) if applicable.
  • Drive innovation: explore new content formats, channels, partnerships, perhaps licensing, repurposing content.
  • Handle quality control: ensure editorial accuracy, compliance with style, legal/rights issues, and brand integrity.
  • Report regularly to senior leadership on content metrics, KPIs, successes, challenges and strategic direction.


Requirements / Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree (Journalism, English, Communications, Marketing or related); Master's is a plus.
  • Significant experience (e.g., 7-10 years) in content, editorial or publishing roles; leadership/management experience preferred.
  • Strong editorial judgment, writing/editing skills, understanding of storytelling and content creation.
  • Experience with content strategy, multi-channel publishing (print + digital), managing a content team.
  • Familiarity with analytics, KPIs, data-driven decision making for content.
  • Excellent leadership, collaboration, project management, organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience in a publishing context (books, magazines, digital publishing) preferred.
  • Comfort with technology and publishing tools (Zoho, CMS, editorial workflow systems, digital publishing platforms).
  • Ability to think strategically and execute operationally; comfortable wearing both "big picture" and "hands-on" hats.
  • A creative mindset: able to innovate, pivot, repurpose content, explore new formats/channels.


The target hiring compensation range for this role is $90k - $110k. Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
