Campus Recreation and Leadership Coordinator


Position Overview: The Campus Recreation and Leadership Coordinator plays a vital role in fostering student engagement, leadership development, and community at Concordia University, St. Paul. This position oversees the intramural sports program, assists with the Ignite Leadership Program, and leads both on-campus and off-campus recreation initiatives that promote wellness, adventure, and student connection. The Coordinator contributes to a welcoming and inclusive environment by developing programs that foster teamwork, leadership, a sense of belonging, and student well-being.


As a member of the Student Life team, the Coordinator will serve as a visible and approachable resource for students from all backgrounds, promoting well-being, healthy physical activity, and a supportive campus environment through proactive programming and student-centered engagement. This role contributes to the university's commitment to creating a welcoming campus culture where every student feels valued and supported.

Essential Duties:


  • Intramural and Recreational Programs

    • Plan, organize, and oversee a comprehensive intramural sports program that encourages participation, teamwork, and healthy competition.
    • Recruit, train, and supervise student officials, scorekeepers, and program assistants.
    • Develop and maintain intramural schedules, rules, and risk management procedures.
    • Manage equipment inventory, facilities scheduling, and budget for intramural activities.
    • Promote participation through effective marketing and outreach efforts.


  • Leadership Development (Ignite Leadership Program)

    • Assist with the coordination and facilitation of the Ignite Leadership Program, including workshops, retreats, and community service initiatives.
    • Support curriculum development and logistics to ensure a high-impact leadership experience.
    • Mentor and guide student participants in developing their leadership skills and personal growth.
    • Collaborate with campus partners to integrate leadership development opportunities across programs.


  • General Departmental Support

    • Develop, coordinate, and supervise an off-campus recreation program that includes outdoor excursions, wellness activities, and community-based recreation opportunities, promoting student engagement and well-being.
    • Serve as a Student Life team member participating in programs and initiatives that support student belonging and success.
    • Oversee daily operations of the campus fitness centers and game rooms, ensuring safe, well-maintained spaces that promote wellness, recreation, and community engagement.
    • Contribute to campus-wide student engagement initiatives and events.
    • Assist with assessment, data collection, and reports related to student involvement and satisfaction.
    • Maintain strong collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and community partners to enhance student success and engagement.


  • Additional duties as assigned


Education & Experience:


  • Required:

    • Bachelor's degree in recreation management, higher education, student affairs, or a related field.
    • 1-3 years of experience in campus recreation, leadership development, or student engagement.
    • Strong organizational and communication skills.
    • Ability to work evening and weekend hours as needed for programs and events.


  • Preferred:

    • Master's degree in higher education administration, student affairs, or related field.
    • Knowledge of intramural operations, leadership training models, and student development theory.
