A Brief Overview

The Licensed Mental Health Professional provides mental health counseling and support services to children and their families served within the Stress, Trauma and Resilience - Telehealth Support Program (STAR-TSP), which facilitates the use of individual, public and private resources so that optimal functioning can occur for both the patient and the family. These core services include assessment of psychosocial functioning and capacities, counseling for care planning and decision-making and community resource planning. Mental health counselors collaborate with many disciplines, programs, departments and organizations in the accomplishment of these duties.

Role is fully remote, with all direct service and care coordination occurring through telecommunication given the telehealth nature of the associated program.

What you will do

  • Provides skilled psychosocial assessment and collaborates with care team and partnering Pennsylvania Child Advocacy Center staff in order to provide quality comprehensive treatment utilizing Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to patients and families enrolled in the Stress, Trauma and Resilience - Telehealth Support Program (STAR-TSP).

  • Conducts clinical assessments of patients and/or their families. Utilizes appropriate psychotherapeutic treatment modalities to achieve patient/ family goals.

  • Collaborates with team members in planning ongoing care and discharge planning for patient and arranges these services in timely manner.

  • Completes documentation in a timely manner that is accurate, legible, clear and organized according to department, hospital and legal standards.

  • Provides leadership in identifying barriers to effective service delivery or problems in work assignments.

  • Actively contributes to or initiates quality improvement projects that improve service delivery.

  • Provides in-service education for program staff and, when appropriate, serves as a field instructor or preceptor for students.

  • Recognizes professional strengths and areas for growth and is accountable for development and enhancement of professional practice skills

  • Provides individual counseling or appropriately refers children.

  • Provides supportive counseling to families who are experiencing distress related to their child's unusual adjustment or emotional or behavioral difficulties.

  • Provides clinical leadership and supervision during crisis situations

  • Works collaboratively with Child Advocacy Center staff to provide resources for patients and families

  • Manages and compiles ongoing clinical outcome data for patients and families

Education Qualifications

  • Master's Degree Required

Experience Qualifications

  • Experience providing Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - Required
  • Experience working with children with behavioral, emotional and social challenges and differences and their families Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of typical and atypical child development and related areas. (Required proficiency)
  • Knowledge of child psychopathology. (Required proficiency)
  • Knowledge of therapy and psychological assessment techniques with children and families. (Required proficiency)
  • Knowledge of behavioral methodology and principles. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English. (Required proficiency)

  • Ability to work independently. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other health care team providers. (Required proficiency)

  • Ability to work with sensitivity to cultural diversity and assists staff in understanding this diversity. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to identify community resources for families and advocate on their behalf. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to present self with professional approach and appearance with high level of emotional maturity. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to learn public health policy and health care legislation and respond to it as a family advocate. (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required or
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required or
