About the Role

MWH Constructors is seeking a Director of Human Resources (DHR) to lead our HR operations throughout the U.S for our Large Projects Business Unit (BU). This BU has over $3B in backlog and is the engine of our revenues and profits of MWH. The DHR will be responsible for all aspects of the BU people strategy to attract, develop, and retain a high-performing workforce across office, field, and project locations. This position is a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for building and sustaining a strong company culture, ensuring compliance with employment regulations, and aligning HR practices with business goals in a fast-paced delivery focused environment that supports business growth and success. In time we want this position to leverage the Large Project Business Unit success throughout the company (East/Methuen (MCC), West/Slayden(SCI) and Large projects). This position is based in our Broomfield, CO office.

This position reports to the SVP of PMAR with MWH Constructors with dotted line coordination and support with DHR EAST/Methuen and DHR WEST/Slayden. This is a full-time, salaried-exempt position, and will have direct reports.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership - Focused on the large project BU.




  • Execute HR strategies that support the company's mission, growth objectives, and operational priorities.





  • Translate the business plan into the associated HR plan to influence the path forward on issues such as the people strategy, any organizational re-design, strategic workforce planning, total rewards solutions, succession planning and talent management, organizational development and employee engagement





  • Serve as a strategic partner to executive leadership for Large Projects and PMAR on organizational design, workforce planning, and succession management.





  • Establish and maintain a collaborative and trust-based partnership with internal leaders, understanding strategy and lines of business as well as thoroughly understanding assigned business groups. Provide value-added HR services to support operational needs and competitive advantage





  • Drive initiatives that enhance employee engagement, retention, and productivity across field and office teams.




Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning - Focused on the large project BU.




  • Lead the internal staff and external partnerships to oversee recruiting and hiring for office, craft, and project personnel.





  • Partner with leaders to develop workforce strategies, to ensure an adequate pipeline of talent, alignment of current talent to business needs, and guidance and support in the development of talent.





  • Assure that salary and career planning is equitable and competitive, linked to our career paths.





  • Provide a forward-looking view into workforce needs by partnering with operations leaders to forecast labor needs and support all aspects of staffing to support multiple projects, the associated support function teams, and corporate leadership.





  • Lead the mobility and people transfers associated with maintaining our organizational needs, while managing the consistency of the process and policies.





  • Develop and implement strategies to attract diverse, skilled talent and build an internal pipeline for key roles.





  • Develop and maintain entry-level openings within the workforce to train and develop future talent dedicated to the organization.




Employee Relations & Compliance - Focused on the large project BU




  • Lead, Maintain and report-out compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including OSHA, EEO, FMLA, and prevailing wage requirements for large projects, East/MCC and West/SCI.

  • Provide leadership in employee relations, ensuring fair and consistent practices that reflect company values





  • Under the leadership of our Corporate Counsel, oversee investigations, corrective actions, and conflict resolution processes.





  • Lead consistency of our approach, adherence to our processes and compliance with our policies for hiring and terminations within our organization.





  • Guide leaders on performance management and the performance management system. Provide leadership to the business on increasing employee performance while maintaining a healthy and high morale work environment.





  • Support leaders in creating succession plans for key roles, identifying top performers and ensuring robust development plans are in place for these individuals.





  • Responsible for helping leaders address employee performance deficiencies with low performers. Ensure leaders are prepared to have performance conversations with their employees on a regular basis.




Training & Development - Focused on the large project BU.




  • Develop and implement leadership, technical and safety training programs to strengthen our workforce capability.





  • Administer and control all updates to the organizational career pathing across all departments.





  • Support the associated professional development and performance management to these career paths across the organization. Responsible for providing guidance and mentoring to leaders on having career development discussions with their employees.





  • Lead the culture of continuous learning, people development and compliance, with both an internal accredited program of development and certifications, and external programs supported by supervisors.





  • Link our training and development with our workforce planning needs.




Compensation, Benefits & HR Systems - Focused on the large project BU.




  • Develop, monitor and maintain current HR programs and practices to ensure consistency across the organization.





  • Identify and lead critical project work in support of executing HR strategies.





  • Lead the competitive mobility, compensation and benefits programs tailored to our industry and the areas in which we serve our clients.





  • Oversee the data analytic development and collection associated with HR information systems (HRIS) to ensure accurate reporting and timely decision making.





  • Manage vendor relationships and negotiate benefit renewals and contracts.




Culture & Engagement




  • Responsible for providing guidance and direction to HR team members and act as a champion of culture for safety, integrity, teamwork, and accountability.





  • Lead communication and recognition initiatives that reinforce company values and employee morale.





  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion programs tailored to construction teams and project environments.




Qualifications:




  • Supervisory experience





  • Knowledge of multiple HR disciplines





  • Expertise around coaching and consulting





  • Excellent project and program management skills





  • Exemplary interpersonal and written communication skills

  • Attention to detail and complete follow through required. Able to successfully multi-task and deal with multiple deadlines and priorities





  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, organizational design, business administration, or related field, or equivalent combination of experience, skills, and training plus 6 or more years' experience with an emphasis on employee relations, leadership coaching, performance management, workforce planning, and change management




Compensation:



  • Anticipated salary range is $200,000 - $225,000 per year, based on experience
