Overview

The RN-Support Nurse supports the Assisted Living (AL) communities and their leaders during evenings, weekends, and (at times) holidays. This role is responsible for accepting off-hour and weekend calls from AL communities and providing direction and support to licensed and unlicensed staff in the provision of care to the community residents.



Responsibilities

    Receives phone calls from Benedictine communities and, through these phone calls, delegates and collaborates in providing resident care according to the licensure and skill levels of persons in the community, follow up to ensure success for staff and residents according to state-based regulations.
  • Demonstrates effective communication in follow-up related to addressing immediate resident needs, including:
    • Engages with physicians, ancillary providers, and coordinates emergency response communication and follow-up.
    • Conducts clear and empathetic communication with families and ensures timely follow-up to address their concerns.
    • Facilitates internal community communication for events such as vulnerable adult concerns, disasters, or weather-related occurrences.
  • Completes all required communication and follow-up according to Benedictine Standards.
    • Completes internal reporting according to the Benedictine Notification Grid
    • Assures communication is completed to ensure safe handover of care to community staff and/or next RN- Support Nurse as appropriate.
  • Documents all phone calls and actions taken in accordance with current standards and established policies. Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory guidelines in all documentation including electronic health records, risk management software, and the on-call log.
  • Complete assigned audits within a community, which may include the clinical record, event reporting, MARs, TARs, event reporting billing, and documentation.
  • Promotes the Benedictine Mission and Core Values of Hospitality, Stewardship, Respect, and Justice by bringing the Mission and Core Values into the day-to-day activities of the company.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Current State Licensure as a Registered Nurse, which must be in good standing.
  • Willing to, and able to acquire licensure in all states (within 30 days) in which Benedictine communities reside and for which on-call tasks are a part of the job role.
  • Experience in long-term care, assisted living, or related health care field.
  • BLS Certification.

SKILLS

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Ability to analyze data, remember and recall multiple policies and procedures.
  • Must have strong organizational skills, ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient/resident care.
  • Knowledge of and skill in using personal computers and related software for word processing (such as Word), spreadsheets (such as Excel), presentations (such as PowerPoint), electronic mail (such as Outlook), and clinical software applications.
  • Ability to draw conclusions from written or computer-generated materials.
  • Ability to make decisions from limited information.
  • Ability to report information, make public contacts, and handle multiple priorities.
  • Must know and stay within the scope of practice from the State Licensing Board.\

Additional Information

Position requires being licensed in MN or WI and obtaining licensure in North Dakota, Illinois, Missouri with in 30 days of employment. Position will be casual with a requirement of working 1 weekend shift a month. Scheduled shifts are: 7pm-7am or 7am-7pm (weekends only).
