Position Summary:

Manages the technical functions of CAD/CAM and Tool Engineering, through the role of technical expert in those areas.

Reports To: Operations Manager - Machining

Personnel: CAD/CAM Engineers, Tooling Engineers, Tool Crib Assemblers

Accountabilities:

Provide technical expertise in the outlined functional areas and manage projects as assigned. Ensure that the software used is appropriate to fit the business needs and fully implemented. Ensure appropriate processes are in place for CAD/CAM and Tool Engineering. Provide ongoing training to personnel in those functional areas. Provide other technical internal consulting and project management leadership as requested. Ensure resources are best utilized to achieve both short- and long-term goals. Analyze and evaluate problems and recommend solutions. Provide periodic reports to executive management. Ensure a qualified staff for area of responsibility exists through appropriate hiring, training, and development.

  • Safety - Commitment to safety while on shop floor and throughout entirety of all projects, including the PPE mandatory compliance
  • Lean - Engage in and lead continuous improvement exercises for the engineering team to ensure we are getting work to the shop floor in the right amount of time
  • Quality - Facilitate a cross-functional team to investigate, root cause, and implement corrective actions for any non-conformances
  • Delivery - Releasing work to the shop floor in a timely manner
  • Team - Collaborate with the shop floor (welders/assemblers/machinists) to ensure the following:

Authorities:

Oversee the ongoing continual improvement of the technical service functions, utilizing best practices of 5S, Final authority regarding processes within area of direct responsibilities, in accordance with company policy and procedure. Authority regarding personnel issues in accordance with company policy and legal requirements, including hiring and termination. Approval of overtime schedules for personnel assigned to area. Determine access authorizations to software/databases within area of responsibility.

Duties:

* Plan, organize, and manage CAD/CAM and Tool Engineering functions, including defining/updating appropriate processes.

* Analyze training needs for personnel in CAD/CAM, Tool Engineers and EIT's on rotation. Determine appropriate training plans and conduct internal training when possible. Provide mentoring and feedback to team members.

* Periodically review software changes in the industry/needs of the business for CAD/CAM and tool data management. Contact point for current software vendors for any issues.

* Advise Manufacturing Managers on any needed changes to programming, verification, post processor, tooling or tool management methods. Implement agreed upon changes through the CAD/CAM function.

* Administer and support Petersen Inc's quality system, through participation in meetings and day-to-day contact with employees.

* Ensure appropriate communications occur within own area as well between area of responsibility and internal/external customers.

* Design, develop, and deliver training and education programs related to key processes to support departmental and company metrics.

* Investigate anomalies; ensure appropriate corrective actions.
