This role is supported by grant funding that is approved through June, 2026.
 The Pediatric Mobile Health unit is a part of the Department of Pediatrics at Hennepin Healthcare. The mobile unit provides care to patients who are reluctant or unable to be seen in a traditional healthcare facility. The mobile unit team consists of a provider (pediatric nurse practitioner or pediatrician), an EMT and a student or resident. The team provides basic health assessments, well child exams, basic labs such, referrals back to a medical home and/or specialty care, and connects families to institutional or community resources that address social determinant of health needs. In addition to providing care to individual household families, the mobile unit also provides conducts pop-up clinics at schools, parking lots, places of worship or other venues in the community. In addition to basic health assessments, staff administer immunizations such as childhood vaccines, influenza and COVID-19 vaccines at pop-up clinics. Committed to creating a culturally competent and inclusive work and care environment, the Pediatric Mobile Health team partners with patients and their families to ensure access to outstanding care through a mobile unit primarily serving the pediatric patient population. As a member of the Pediatric Mobile Health team, the EMT will provide care in the mobile unit and at various locations and field work throughout the community.
 SUMMARY Under general supervision of the Ambulatory Clinical Technician performs a wide variety of medical and clinic support functions. The Ambulatory Clinical Technician assists with indirect and direct patient care and performs specialized medical procedures of a routine nature as determined by established Policies, Procedures and Clinical Protocols within an Ambulatory setting. RESPONSIBILITIES Performs direct patient care tasks after training and competency validation are complete. Direct patient care tasks include but are not limited to the following: 
    Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general populationObtains and documents patient's reason for visit, vital signs including height and weight, patient screening questions, review allergies, and review medicationsPerforms a variety of screening related to patient care including but not limited to vision, hearing, developmental, and pain and records information in to the patient's medical recordSets up and prepares patient for examination and/or procedure along with providing direct assistance to LIPAdministers immunizations and medications within scope and under orders and direction from an LIPCollects, labels and processes specimens (e.g. phlebotomy, urinalysis, swabs) using appropriate technique recording information into the patient's medical record as indicatedAssists nurse or LIP with procedures including those requiring sterile and clean techniqueUses universal blood and body fluid precautions at all times and personal protective equipment as neededDocuments and reports patient observations, care and outcomes of interventions in the electronic health record (EHR)Follows appropriate documentation procedure on paper for approved department specific proceduresEngages and facilitate with other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needsActivates emergency response and/or initiates Basic Life Support when appropriateProvides standardized instruction based on written materials. Refer patients that require further teaching to a nurse or LIPPerforms other duties as assigned Indirect patient care/clinic tasks include but are not limited to the following: 
    Promotes patient welfare and independence by communicating through words and actions and understanding of patients' reactions to the healthcare environmentMaintains stock of medications and immunizations as assignedMaintains a clean, functional environment including cleaning and disinfecting of equipment and exam roomsEnsures equipment is operable and follows established procedures to remove equipment out of service for inspectionCompletes the pre-cleaning of scopes and instruments as applicable to departmentPerforms and records calibration/monitoring requirements as assignedStocks rooms according to written standard work. Procures equipment and supplies as indicated for the departmentPerforms limited registration and scheduling tasks in clinics and/or contact Connection Center to do phone registration and scheduling
Attends department daily huddles, meetings, in-services and appropriate work-related education programsAssists team with delegated in-basket and care management dutiesPerforms other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications: 
    Successful completion of an approved training program for EMT Preferred Qualifications: 
    Experience with EPIC and/or similar electronic health recordProficient with Microsoft Office Software6 months related experience or HHS externshipBilingual in English and at least one other language commonly spoken by HHS patients Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities: 
    Ability to perform specialized clinical tasks and procedures in alignment with HHS standardsKnowledge of medical terminologyAbility to effectively interview patients and collect information required to obtain medical history and to accurately register and/or schedule patientsAbility to work cohesively and respectfully with a diverse work force and patient populationAbility to prioritize, organize, and communicate with multidisciplinary staffBasic computer knowledgeAbility to read and follow written instructions; understand and communicate verbal and written informationAbility to perform job duties that meet departmental performance expectations as well as HHS standards related to quality, accuracy, productivity, patient and family centered care, customer service, etc License/Certifications: 
    Certification by the State of Minnesota as an EMTMust have and maintain valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers certification or the ability to obtain this within the first three months of employmentMust have a valid driver's license and the availability of an insured vehicle or demonstrate ability to travel to offsite clinics during the work shift within a one-hour timeframeMust have a valid driver's license or state equivalent and must have a satisfactory driving record including no morethan two moving violations in the past three years of licensure
