Position Summary

Join our dynamic team as a Missions Operations Lead (Logistician and Supportability Engineer) and become a vital contributor to support NASA as an Oceaneering Teammate on the JSC Engineering, Technology, and Science (JETS) II contract. As an integral part of our organization, you'll play a crucial role in the Advanced Projects section in the Engineering Department on the NASA JSC Engineering, Technology and Science II (JETS II) Contract. Duties And Responsibilities
Some of your major responsibilities will include:
- The candidate will define and develop the infrastructure to bridge the realtime operations and engineering functions, ensuring efficient, and scientifically productive system operations under EVA conditions. This person will be responsible for developing and executing processes for effectively executing mission operations rules, procedures, anomaly response, and systems trending for on- and off-console personnel to ensure effective coordination between the MACS engineering, science, and flight operations personnel.
- Lead the development, implementation and execution of the engineering support required for effective MACS mission operations
- Develop and maintain operations procedures, rules, checklists, alarms for nominal and off-nominal mission operations
- Manage on- and off-console engineering support operations and ensure the engineering team is properly trained, equipped, and supported.
- Develop a mechanism to provide high materiel availability of the operations facility
- Serve as liaison between Engineering (design, test, systems) and Mission Operations: ensure engineering knowledge is identified and transitioned to ops products.
- Monitor system performance, health, and trending: identify long-term degradations, aging effects, drift, resource depletion (e.g., power, thermal, communications).
- Support mission replanning efforts: when anomalies or resource constraints / environmental conditions demand adjustments, manage trade-offs, coordinate with the operations team to adjust traverse plans, schedules, etc.
- Lead anomaly investigation and resolution activities, including identification of root causes and implementation of corrective actions.
- Effectively coordinate with Mission Operations, Science, Navigation, Driver, and Payload Operators to ensure operational decisions reflect engineering constraints.
- Ensure operations products (alarms, procedures, operational documentation) accurately reflect the capabilities and limitations of the MACS.
- Support pre-mission simulations and rehearsals.
- Work with stakeholders on integration efforts
- Identify and support the development of operations tools: command scripting, timeline tools, telemetry/telecom and systems, mission trending dashboards
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering and ten (10) or more years of related work experience.
- Bachelor's degree (preferably in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field);
- System development experience
- Mission development and planning experience
- Experience as a Flight Controller or console operator in mission operations; experience in Engineering Mission Support.
- Experience in developing, writing, reviewing, executing mission operations procedures and flight rules.
- Experience in anomaly detection, analysis, and resolution; trend analysis and system health monitoring.
- Experience in mission replanning, resource constrained operations
- Experience with mission rules / fail-safe / safe modes, transition plans.
- Ability to work under time pressure, real-time and near real-time decision making; good situational awareness of what is happening on the console and what engineering implications behind the scenes.
- Strong communication skills: able to interface with engineering (systems, payload), science, operations, program management.
- Able to write clear, concise operational documentation.
- Experience in simulations, pre-launch / pre-mission operations rehearsals, and with validating operations procedures.
- Familiarity with tools / software environments used in mission operations (e.g., telemetry monitoring & trending tools; scripting languages; constraint/trade-analysis tools).
- NASA or DoD experience.
PREFERRED :
- Extensive experience (e.g. 8-12+ years, or more depending on level) in mission operations, or analogous real-time systems operations.
- Previous experience of missions operations.
- Experience leading teams of console operators or flight controllers.
- Hands-on experience with Operations products: alarms, procedures, timelines, mission rules / rules of engagements.
- Experience with mission tools: simulation / emulation platforms, mission operations center software, operational dashboards.
- Familiarity with systems engineering practices, configuration management, version control for operations products.
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
- Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
- Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.
