Data Security Governance Consultant

Join the Data Security Governance team as a consultant responsible for assessing, researching, analyzing, and documenting processes that impact data security. This role focuses on ensuring compliance with corporate data protection standards across data center and cloud storage platforms.

Essential Functions
  • Govern and manage scanned data entities against corporate standards.
  • Use results from sensitive data discovery scans to identify deviations and communicate them to data owners for resolution.
  • Review and approve remediation of non-compliance with data protection standards, including escalated cases.
  • Support risk-based decision-making by identifying, assessing, and documenting data security risks and recommending appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain and update process and user reference documentation to improve efficiency and reduce user friction.
  • Review and approve variances against corporate data protection and IT security standards.
  • Provide guidance to sensitive data owners on securing their data.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including IT, compliance, and business units to ensure consistent application of data protection standards.
Education
  • Bachelor's in computer science or equivalent work experience (preferred)
Work Experience
  • Experience working independently and leading meetings with business lines and data owners.
  • Experience discovering and documenting information relevant to data security.
  • Experience with ServiceNow, Microsoft Purview, or BigID in the context of data security posture management.
Skills
  • Familiarity with data security and data protection concepts, challenges, and practical applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, especially when cross-referencing documentation and maintaining records.
  • Analytical reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to guide and educate non-technical personnel on data security.
  • Ability to research and analyze industry trends and apply them to team goals, tools, and processes.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying informed on emerging data security trends, technologies, and regulatory changes.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $68,000.00 - $103,000.00 annually. Placement within the pay range may differ based upon various factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and geographic location. Compensation for this role also includes eligibility for incentive compensation subject to individual and company performance.
