Research Senior Technician to assist and support scientific investigation to study in the research as directed in the Department of NeuroSurg; independently conducts assigned experiments; performs a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures including PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures and Northern and Western analysis; sorts and processes tissue and blood samples; tests and evaluates current procedures; performs routine procedures on lab animals; records, consolidates and assists with analysis of research results; assists in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures; summarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts; prepares research progress reports; assists principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts; conducts library research on requested topics through researching current literature; oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities; assists with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation; sets up and operates laboratory equipment; monitors research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed.
Minimum Education Required
Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required; 4 years of relevant experience required with High School diploma or GED, 2 years of relevant experience required with Associate's Degree, or 0 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree.; ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required. Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post offer process.

60% Participates in the development and implementation of a nationally competitive program in (area of research); develops and tests hypotheses; develops and implements new research techniques and methodologies in the laboratory; plans, designs and executes advanced research experiments; conducts statistical analysis, evaluation and interpretation of raw data; responds to RFA; ensures compliance to grant time line; develops new and on-going collaborative research opportunities.

20% Directs, supervises and oversees daily activities of laboratory; ensures appropriate and timely maintenance of research equipment; directs procurement of reagents, chemicals, equipment, animals and other research supplies; supervises and performs animal microsurgery and ex-vivo perfusion experiments; ensures and is accountable for compliance to federal and institutional laboratory safety regulations; assesses laboratory strengths and weaknesses towards process improvement and higher efficiency; identifies and resolves laboratory problems; ensures, tracks and documents laboratory productivity and documentation of research on a weekly basis.

10% Writes and maintains IACUC and IRB proposals; collaborates with statistical support to meet program needs; oversees and monitors animal inventory.

5% Investigates and evaluates current literature to set goals for current and new research projects and grants.

5% Supervises and instructs junior research staff and undergraduate students
