Overview

This candidate will work closely with the Section Manager in the Special Projects & Equipment Engineering & Design Team to review and monitor the current projects. This candidate's primary role will be to create detailed construction packages for both area and transmission switching substations. This candidate will work with external and in-house design teams to engineer and design construction packages. Their responsibilities will include providing technical expertise, leadership, and supervision of resources to ensure that all operations are completed within schedule, budget, best engineering practices, and regulatory guidelines. Additionally, they will be responsible for meeting the project goals and specifications. The Senior Engineer will also be responsible for setting schedules, hiring staff, supervising the work of team members and adhering to administrative procedures in order to keep a project on deadline and within budget.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Develop and process requests for proposals (RFP) for outside services.
  • Guide and support new employees and junior designers/engineers in carrying out their assigned functions.
  • Monitor and coordinate deliverable package schedule milestones with outside vendors.
  • Coordinate and attend pre and post-bid field walks.
  • Review, guide, direct, and monitor the progress of awarded outside contracts.
  • Track and process contract milestone payments.
  • Engineer, develop, review, and approve engineering construction packages.
  • Ensure design packages comply with company and industry standards and specifications.
  • Schedule and support department and CENG key performance indicator initiatives.
  • Develop work plans, schedules, and priorities for design personnel to meet project due dates.
  • Communicate and coordinate deliverables with customers.
  • Oversee training and professional development of design personnel.
  • Monitor the performance of design personnel and prepare/review performance evaluations.
  • Provide direction and participate in the resolution of union matters.
  • Prepares, reviews, and revises specifications as required, i.e., Design Instructions.
  • Coordinate and conduct field visits as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 8 years of applicable work experience in design drafting/computer-aided design, electrical systems design, or utility-related electrical equipment application. or
  • Master's Degree with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 6 years of applicable work experience in design drafting/computer-aided design, electrical systems design, or utility-related electrical equipment application.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Required
  • 8+ years of experience in design drafting/computer-aided design, electrical systems design, or utility -related electrical equipment application is required. Required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Required
  • Supervisory experience of management and union employees. Required
  • Knowledge in reading schematic diagrams and control schemes or blueprints in operating and designing electrical and electronic devices and equipment. Preferred
  • Familiarity with local, national, and industry codes and standards. Preferred
  • Project Management experience is highly desirable. Preferred
  • Working knowledge of drafting standards and construction documentation. Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required
Additional Physical Demands
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be willing and able to travel throughout the Company service territory.
  • Must be willing and able to wear the required PPE as needed.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime, extended hours, and on weekends/holidays as needed or as system conditions dictate.
  • Must be willing and able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be willing and able to work in substations- near high voltage equipment and other energized conditions.
  • Must be willing and able wot work in and around live electricity.
  • Must be willing and able to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and work in confined spaces, on roofs, around noise, in high heat, and on elevations,
  • Must be able to detect traffic sounds, alarms, and backup warning devices when working near traffic, around moving equipment, and within substations and buildings.
