Purpose:

Worley is seeking an experienced Electrical Designer Level I to join our Monrovia, CA office. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to high-profile energy and infrastructure projects while working alongside a collaborative team of engineering professionals. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical design skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to delivering innovative and efficient solutions for our clients.

Responsibilities:

  • The ability to work within a team environment with a minimum of supervision and to Client, Company and Industry standards.
  • Performs moderately to difficult drafting assignments requiring a working knowledge of established drafting techniques, standards, practices, and software. Understands and applies company procedures as they pertain to the electrical discipline.
  • The proven ability to oversee the preparation of design and detail drawings from sketches, plans or other design / specification data.
  • Ability to take on responsibility for the design and drafting of HV and LV electrical installations.
  • Direct the work of junior designers and ensure the drawings are in accordance with the client requirements and relevant project specifications.
  • Have the experience to participate in design review with various clients and to advise on technical design and drafting issues and compliance requirements as appropriate.
  • Be able to demonstrate a proven track record of completing a given work scope within time and budget constraints.
  • Develop layouts, plans, sections, elevations, and details for facilities, equipment, etc. from reference drawings or catalogues and makes routine calculations.
  • Performs dimensional and routine calculations required for the preparation of drawings. Records and files electrical discipline documents.
  • Quality Assurance - Responsible for working within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance system relevant to the project, etc.
  • Must be experienced in rebuilding design activities after a fire or other incident.
  • Requires to be at site for approx. 6 months with site investigation, sketch preparation, preparation of work scope for demolition activities.

Essential Functions

  • Performs electrical design work on small, mid-size and large projects of varying complexity.
  • Provides drawing layouts and design development, applying technical knowledge, industry and client standards and codes
  • Site verification, design data collection in hazardous locations
  • Generate material take-offs (MTOs) and Bill of Materials (BOMs)
  • Interact and guide workshare offices, coordinate and provide quality assurance.
  • Performs calculations (lighting, cable tray, conduit, wire sizing, etc).
  • Performs man-hour estimates for design work.
  • Performs job walks wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in an operating oil and gas facility.

What you will bring
Technical/Industry Experience and Qualifications Requirements:

  • 1 to 3 years of experience.
  • Experience with SPEL, AutoCAD and MicroStation design software packages, AVEVA 2D/3D is a plus.
  • Experience with the SP3D, PDMS, PDS EERWAY 3D CAD system, participate in 3D model reviews.
  • Training in 2D and 3D CAD software.
  • Specialization in the following: detailed drawings for lighting; small power and earthing systems; HV/LV single line diagrams; wiring and control schematic diagram; AC/DC distribution panels, process area electrical equipment layouts, substation and switchyard layouts, cable tray, above grade and underground cable layouts, duct bank sizing and layouts, preparation of installation details, grounding plans, lightning layouts.
  • Cable schedules, cable pulling calculations, cable tray sizing calculations, cable selection & sizing calculations.
  • Lighting calculations (using software AGI32, DiaLux, etc.)
  • Functional MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Etc.)
  • Functional understanding of Electrical Estimating System to generate MTOs and BOMs.
  • Work independently on design projects.
  • Solid understanding of National Electric Code (NEC) and industry standards.
  • Functional skills in the use of SmartPlant review and other 3D modelling software.
  • Functional skills in the use of LFM or other laser scan tools.
  • Functional skills in the use of Microstation (Hexagon) 2D, AutoCAD or other 2D design.
  • Good understanding of electrical construction materials and material specifications.

Additional Information:

  • This role is in California.
  • Salary Hourly $30.49- $44.84.

Education - Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

Required:

  • Associate Degree in Electrical Technology, Electrical Engineering / Design / Drafting.

Preferred:

  • A bachelor's degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering / Design / Drafting.
  • 3 years in petrochemical and refining with project design, execution, construction.
  • Oil and Gas experience.
