Date: Oct 15, 2025 Location: Company: The Air Traffic Control (ATC) Systems Group develops and deploys advanced technologies to enable safe, efficient & secure transportation systems. Focus areas include advanced weather sensing and forecasting systems; ATC decision support systems; system architectures and cybersecurity; and transportation systems evolution, including uncrewed and autonomous systems and commercial space launches. The Group has broad expertise which permits end-to-end advanced technology development and prototyping in all these areas, as well as the agility to respond to emerging threats and opportunities, such as pandemic impacts and recovery. Extensive field evaluations and simulation studies are employed to elicit user needs, ensure user acceptance and to enable the successful transition of new technologies into operational use. Key accomplishments of the Group include the development of the Terminal Doppler Weather Radar, and deployment of a host of decision support systems at numerous ATC facilities in the United States and beyond. The Brand New ATC System is an emerging near-term opportunity. The Air Traffic Control Systems Group is developing a range of advanced aviation weather and decision support technologies to improve air transportation safety, efficiency, and cyber-resiliency. Examples include the Route Availability Planning Tool, NextGen Weather Processor, Offshore Precipitation Capability, and Traffic Flow Impact system. This summer internship position project will involve the design and development of software for next-generation air traffic management decision-support systems. The candidate will participate on a product development team and support multiple aspects of the project including designing and implementing algorithms, engineering real-time systems, testing components, and documenting software. Typical development languages include Java, Python, C++, and/or MATLAB. The successful candidate will be pursuing a BS or MS degree inComputer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or other technical field. Experience in software development (Python, C/C++, Java), Machine Learning required. Experience in Cloud computing desired. Summer Research Program Overview The Summer Research Program offers students the chance to apply their academic knowledge to real-world national security challenges while working alongside leading scientists and engineers. As an SRP intern, you'll engage in hands-on research, receive dedicated mentorship, and take part in professional development opportunities including workshops, tech talks, and networking events-all while building connections within a vibrant community of peers.
Compensation Hourly pay rates below are effective January 2025 - December 2025 and will be reviewed again for Summer 2026.
