POSITION SUMMARY:

The Property Accountant I is responsible for the day-to-day accounting activities of an assigned portfolio within a team structure. They adhere to the Accounting Policies and Procedures manual set by Dominium and maintains a professional relationship and communicates regularly with Dominium Accounting staff, Dominium Development staff, Dominium Management staff, agencies and lenders who all must work together for the success and profitability of the company.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  1. Apply accounting principles and ensure compliance with GAAP, HUD Section 8, Section 42, Section 236, and other applicable regulations.
  2. Manage the month-end close process and prepare accurate financial statements for stakeholders including government agencies, lenders, investors, and owners.
  3. Record journal entries for transactions such as mortgage payments, bank activity, accruals, and reclassifications.
  4. Support site staff (Community Managers, Assistant Managers, A/R personnel) with Yardi and Excel reports, deposits, and security deposit refunds.
  5. Reconcile bank statements monthly for all properties and partnerships, resolve discrepancies, and report findings to Accounting Management. Prepare regular balance sheet reconciliations for assigned properties.
  6. Process capital expenditure requests and submit draw requests for replacement reserves to lenders and agencies.
  7. Monitor escrow accounts for taxes and insurance, conduct bi-annual analyses, and coordinate timely payments with lenders.
  8. Assist with audit preparation by maintaining organized documentation and compiling audit workpapers for external reviewers.
  9. Perform general office tasks, respond to inquiries from staff, management, and external partners, and contribute to other projects aligned with departmental goals.
  10. Other projects assigned by manager.


QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Two year degree in accounting or related field; 1-3 years of accounting experience preferred.
  • Accounting software experience required. Experience with reviewing and analyzing financial data, preferred.
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc)
  • Clear and professional communication skills both verbal and written
  • Advanced mathematical abilities and reasoning skills.


PAY: $60,000 - $65,000/year + 5% bonus eligibility
