Velosity Forest Lake is searching for a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer to support our manufacturing facility in Forest Lake, MN. The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for providing support to the Manufacturing organization to facilitate efficient operations within the production area, to optimize existing processes, and to ensure that production goals are met. Monitors performance of equipment, machines and tools and corrects equipment problems or process parameters that produce non-conforming products, low yields or product quality issues. Interfaces with the Quality organizations to integrate new products or processes into the existing manufacturing area. Initiates and completes complex technical activities leading to new or improved products or processes, for current programs, next generation programs and to meet strategic goals and objectives of the company. Prepares reports, publishes, and makes presentations to communicate findings.

This is an on-site position.

The typical pay range for this role: $84,000 - $126,000.

This pay range reflects the base hourly rate or annual salary for positions within this job grade, based on our market-based pay structures. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as skills, relevant experience, education, internal equity, business needs, and local market conditions. While the full range is shared for transparency, offers are rarely made at the minimum or maximum of the range.

Essential Duties:

  • Work as a liaison with other internal teams and departments to support functions of operations.
    • Involvement with teams and departments includes but not limited to: quality, program managers, process engineering, tooling, materials, shipping/receiving, purchasing, sales, customer service.
  • Communicate and work with customers to support functions of operations.
  • Support daily functions of production and provide technical support and solutions to manufacturing processes to: trouble shoot issues, improve yield and throughput, drive cost reductions activities, and improve on part quality.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, offering guidance and resolution for escalated issues affecting production and cross-functional operations
  • Acts as a specialist on complex technical and business matters.
  • Develop procedures and instructions to define and improve manufacturing controls.
  • Use 3D CAD software to design and fabricate fixtures/equipment to support and improve production processes.
  • Initiates and completes complex technical activities leading to new or improved products or processes, for current programs, next generation programs and to meet strategic goals and objectives of the company.
  • Assist in new product transfer from development to sustained production.
  • Identify and drive Continuous Improvement (CI) opportunities throughout the facility: Improving production yield, reducing cost, improving processes, and improving overall operational performance.
  • Contribute to the purchase of new capital equipment by making recommendations and evaluating vendor proposals.
  • Prepares reports, publishes, and makes presentations to communicate findings.
  • Guide and mentor less experienced engineers
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • Valid identification and the ability to work legally in the United States.
  • 7+ years' experience as a manufacturing engineer in a plastic injection molding and assembly environment.
  • Must be able to perform daily tasks safely; work independently with limited supervision; solve practical problems, work cooperatively and effectively with customers, vendors and other departments within Velosity.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including presentation skills; effective business correspondence and reporting; working knowledge of Microsoft Office and business operating systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering or technical operations including experience in product/engineering management; effective problem-solving techniques; Knowledge of production processes; techniques for maximizing the effective manufacturing of product; knowledge of print reading, familiarity with inspection equipment, and quality control.
  • Ability to solve difficult problems and work effectively with customers, suppliers and other departments. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead large, complex programs. Proactively identify problems, develop and implement action plans to resolve them.
  • Ability to mentor less experienced engineers and team members to build their skills.

Physical & Mental Demands:

  • Walking is required within the office/shop areas. Sitting, standing, turning the head and torso, reaching, grasping, bending and flexing the arms, legs, wrists, and fingers are physical requirements. Must have correctable eyesight and good depth perception. Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Must be able to walk, sit and occasionally climb and balance. Must be able to lift 30 pounds and move objects in a safe manner using proper equipment. Must have dexterity with hands.
  • Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks and complete them within a timely manner (results oriented); Ability to make decisions with limited information.

Work Environment:

This is a non-smoking, professional manufacturing shop with normal lighting and climate control. This position may require one to move throughout the shop and office and may be subject to airborne contaminants and chemical odors as would be customary in an injection molding/ Precision Machining shop.

Protective Clothing Required:

When in certain locations of the facility, eye and ear protection are required. Closed-toed/ Slip resistant shoes are also required in certain locations.
