Business Unit Overview

This position is part of Novanta's Corporate and Shared Services global team. Novanta's Corporate and Shared Services teams play an important role in executing the company's strategic mission and operations. Included in Corporate and Shared Services are the business functions including Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal, Compliance, Corporate Development and Corporate Marketing. The Corporate and Shared Services teams work closely with all Novanta business units to support operating initiatives contributing to the organization's financial success.

Job Summary

As Director, Corporate Finance, you will lead and direct the financial planning and analysis function for Novanta's Corporate and Shared Services. You will be responsible for developing and executing financial strategies, overseeing budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis across multiple departments. This role serves as a key advisor to senior leadership, providing insights and recommendations that impact the company's financial success. The candidate must be a "hand's on" leader, who enjoys challenges and thrives in a demanding environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct financial planning and analysis for Corporate and Shared Services, including budgets, forecasts, performance analysis, and executive presentations.
  • Provide financial modeling and decision-support for strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with Novanta's corporate objectives.
  • Support day-to-day needs for vendor management, purchasing, requisition of services, and other third-party spending activities of the Corporate and Shared Service departments, partnering closely with the global supply chain organization as needed.
  • Manage and mentor subordinate employees, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement process improvements across finance, IT, HR, Accounting, Legal, Supply Chain, and other areas to drive operational efficiency and better financial outcomes.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to senior leadership, providing financial insights and recommendations for business decisions.
  • Oversee vendor management and purchasing activities, ensuring optimal value and compliance.
  • Represent Corporate Finance in cross-functional projects and initiatives, collaborating with business unit leaders to support organizational goals.

Required Experience, Education, Skills and Competencies

  • BS degree in Finance or Accounting
  • Exceptional financial, analytical, and modeling skills typically gained through 10-12 years of experience in financial planning and analysis, financial management and cost management with increasing leadership responsibility.
  • Proven track record of leading teams, managing complex projects, and influencing senior leadership.
  • Self-starter with the demonstrated ability to be a "hand's on" work in a fast-paced unstructured atmosphere with minimal supervision
  • Advanced financial, analytical, and modeling skills; expertise in MS Excel, EPM tools (HFM, Oracle EPM), and BI tools (PowerBI).
  • Demonstrated success in process improvement initiatives, including problem identification & mitigation.
  • Demonstrated success in project management, including scoping, resource and time management, working cross-functionally, and achieving project targets
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate complex financial information to diverse audiences.

Travel Requirements

  • Occasional travel is required to Novanta global locations.
  • Less than 10%

Physical Requirements

  • Mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer.
  • Ability to use vison to read computer screen and read printed materials
