Responsibilities

The Pavilion Behavioral Health System includes a 110 bed inpatient hospital, a residential treatment center for youth and a residential addictions treatment program. Outpatient services include partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient services, as well as The Pavilion Foundation School, a private day school serving students with learning disabilities and behavior disorders. The Pavilion is located in Champaign, IL, within minutes of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus.

The Intake Specialist is a vital part of The Pavilion's team. This is a full time position working 40 hours a week, 1:00pm-9:00pm, 5 days or 11:00am-9:00pm 4 days. This role also requires employees to work every other weekend.

POSITION SUMMARY: Intake Specialists provide short-term assistance to distressed individuals, families, and significant others. People in crisis may seek help directly, or can be referred by others. Purpose is to provide a professional assessment and triage to the most appropriate, least restrictive treatment environment. Each patient and/or family contacting or referred to The Pavilion shall be assessed by an Intake Specialist. A licensed psychiatrist or other physician oversees triage and referral decision.

As an Intake Specialist, you will:

  1. Provide triage service in a sensitive and responsive fashion.
  2. Complete screening and assessment, including demographic and clinical information.
  3. Educate referral sources on The Pavilion and other available services in part to minimize the occurrence of crisis.
  4. Provide appropriate information and/or crisis intervention services to the caller over the phone.
  5. When necessary, interview the patient and/or significant others to explore alternative modes of care consistent with the least restrictive treatment model.
  6. Consult with on-call psychiatrist or New Choice M.D.
  7. Be responsible for completion of admitting paperwork/assessment report.
  8. Screen and assess all potential admissions by means of a face-to-face contact.
  9. Advise inpatient units of impending admissions.
  10. Data entry.
  11. Precertification of patient insurance.
  12. Complete consultation with other professionals and provide off-site assessments as requested and feasible.
