Responsibilities
The Substitute Teacher educates students and administers policies and procedures relating to all phases of education in accordance with current state and federal special education standards. In addition, the Substitute Teacher is responsible for helping with planning, coordinating and supervising individualized direct care, educational group services and activities for each assigned student or group. This position defines and implements education and behavior goals as a member of the educational team. As an active member, this position provides continuous individualized tailored student care, observation, interaction, documentation, and role modeling to students while under the direct supervision of the School Supervisor. As Teacher, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties. The Teacher may also serve as primary instructor for Verbal De-escalation, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) and/or CPR certifications (as applicable). Full Time benefit options include: Qualifications Education: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Education or related field. A minimum of three years related experience. Certified as a teacher by the State of Texas preferred. Experience: Minimum of two (2) yeas as an instructor in a psychiatric facility. Knowledge of educational theories and classroom teaching strategies with a good understanding of education and therapeutic intervention. License: Valid teaching credentials and credentials to teach exceptional children. Additional Requirements: : Successful completion of CPR certification. Successful completion of CPI training prior to assisting with a restraining procedure and within 90 days of employment. Knowledge of current professional Education practice and techniques applicable to the care of severely behaviorally disabled students. Ability to demonstrate proficiency in the same. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with other staff, management, and physicians. Analytical skills necessary to observe educational practice as well as observe and interpret human behavior accurately.
